As a family with four chrildren aging from 4 to 11 we find it very hard to have a short break with the kids without paying thousands of pounds for adjoining rooms or suits. we found The Royal hotel on the internet and could not believe the price, All the way there my wife and i were joking that we would have to turn around and go straight back home if the hotel was as bad as the price suggested! How wrong can you be.. this hotel was fabulous, the staff were helpful, the room was spacious, clean and the restaurant was lovely. Scarborough was very pleasant at Christmas time and interesting for the chrildren. We will definately visit again.

As a Group Tour Organiser for the Somerset Traction Engine Club, I took a party of 90 people to the Royal Hotel in Scarborough from the 18th to 21st December 2009 on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast basis. The Hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas, there was a good choice of menu at Dinner, (we even had an unexpected Christmas Dinner on the Sunday evening) and Breakfast was a substantial buffet. The staff were friendly and obliging. The rooms were comfortable and well appointed. In spite of the large size of my party I did not have a problem, no complaints from any of my group (which I am sure I would have done had things not been right), apart from the price of a beer, but then other places were selling beer in Scarborough that weekend so it was not a problem. We had a great weekend (in spite of the Snow) and the choice of Hotel was part of that success. I would certainly not have a problem with taking my group there again.

Perfectly situated for some serious shopping and easy access to seafront. We upgraded to a superior double with sea view, which had a HUGE bed and was very spacious. The only drawback was that the water temperature in the bathroom never rose above tepid the whole weekend.
Service in the bar and restaurant was very good - really nice wine list and some lovely things on the menu.
For a January break it was excellent value for money and is a good 3-star hotel.
We would certainly go back again.

We spent a lovely Sunday/Monday in Scarborough at the Royal, their deal on Dinner, Bed and Breakfast for ninety pounds is great value. Early check-in, late check-out, spa entry included and room upgrade included!

Hotel is being refurbished in a manner that retains the victorian grandeur of the place - the bar now looks really classy, our room was luxurious, modern yet still traditional, and the little spa now has led lights that change colour, plays tranquility type music and is getting a lick of paint too. We feel really chilled out!

The food was excellent too - lovely 3 course meal, best rib of beef I've had for ages, and they seem to have upped the quality on the breakfast too. Service very good too, friendly helpful staff, very impressed. We love the royal anyway but it seemed even better than usual. Highly recommended, the tripadvisor ratings do not reflect the quality of this hotel one bit. The location is the best in Scarboro for a stroll down to the seafront or a spot of shopping on a short break.

We have just returned from a 4 night Christmas break; the reception staff were helpful and friendly, we got a good room with plenty of space and comfortable bed. The food was excellent and we have only admiration for the Chef and his team; they provided us with a superb Christmas dinner and then gave us a delicious buffet the same evening.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they all added to the enjoyment of our Christmas break; Thank you to them all.

Stayed in hotel during freezing weather, the food and service was good, the rooms were clean and comfortable once the heaters were on, but room window would'nt close so was very draughty, heavy drapes helped, but found a lot of areas in ballroom where we had to eat as hotel was busy were very very draughty.

We have just had the most wonderful weekend at the Royal Hotel in Scarborough. This was for a Christmas “do” and is the second year we’ve been. We stayed from Friday through until Monday and it was just the perfect start to Christmas. There were 29 of us in total, friends and relatives along with my husband and me.
Our party night on 19 December was great. The food was served up very efficiently and was hot and really tasty. The disco played some fab tunes and the band, Minus Benn, had us on the dance floor for ages.
The hotel is wonderfully Victorian with some awesome period features. We had an upgrade to a suite and it was like having our own apartment for the weekend. The hotel also has a small pool, a sauna, steam room and spa. Perfect for lounging around with the outside temperature being about -2, brrrrrr!
The staff were very attentive and polite so thanks to them for helping make the weekend so memorable. We’ll be back again next year for certain.
