Most staff were very helpful, but were overcharged for one evening meal twice when paying the bill. When asked if there was as feedback system for guests to comment, I was told no there was not. I explained that it would be good to feedback our experience for staff training, but this was met with 'you mean we need to get our act together'. I then felt my conversation was useless with this woman at the reception, as she was not receptive to anything that would improve the hotel and get future guests. This in turn would keep the hotel with guests who could be part of the process of updating, both in furnishing and staff training.
When asked about a sculpture in the hotel, there was no information that would lead me to know who the artist was. The swimming pool looked dirty, and when asked how it was monitored for cleanliness, we were told that 'loads of chlorine was put in'. My point was that there was no log of information for guests to see when it was last checked. The Jacuzzi was not working whilst we were, and i got a picture of that this had been like it for sometime. The showers were dirty and old. Water was constantly running as the controls were not user friendly. The water in our room was tepid as we were patient enough and did not want to complain,, but after two nights we reported the problem and it was sorted. This seems to be a general problem with the plumbing/water in this hotel. Perhaps if the owners stayed 'undercover' in this hotel they might really find out what the experience is like staying in there and see the problems for themselves. It seems such a shame to neglect the hotel and staff for such a well positioned hotel in Scarborough. Soon people will get wise to looking on tripadvisor and do their talking with their feet. The chairs used for weddings did not support any weight on them and were a real problem for people with problems with either hip, back, or other problems with sitting down on a chair. These need reupholstering.
The windows in our one of rooms could not be opened, and as it was warm it made it uncomfortable. One of our family members experience was very distressing and contravened health & safety, arriving with water already in their room, which later the ceiling came down. Transferring to another room for one night, and then again to another with a very uncomfortable bed. There is a very serious health and safety issue here and needs reporting to the property authority before a serious accident happens. If this hotel falls apart, the owners know about it but are doing nothing it. They deserve to be named and shamed. Parking is atrocious in Scarborough, and expensive. I would have preferred to have written a different review but I can only write as I experienced it.
