“Revisited”
Reviewed 16 October 2012

We revisited the Crown Spa earlier this year for a 5 day break. We pre booked our room on the 5th floor and the room didn't disappoint! Lovely as usual. We normally visit in the winter season but this time we went in June. The room was a lot warmer and having the windows open didn't help but the owners have noted this and have now fitted a ceiling mounted fan which was a real benefit.
We only have one little niggle and it's to do with the restaurant. The food is very good but the service was for our stay below standard for such a lovely hotel. We booked in for an evening meal. We didn't order anything special and the restaurant was not busy but we were left waiting a very long time. Please note the staff, were very friendly. But come on “The Crown” we normally rave about you but this time we left a little deflated.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a mostly positive review. I unfortunately can’t comment on the service in the restaurant as I am not sure of the date of your stay. we do ask that any customer with any issue speak to us during their stay at which time we are sure we will be able to amend any issues that may occur.

I will certainly pass on your kind words to our team and do hope you return to the Crown.

Kind Regards

We had a nice weekend there a couple of weeks ago, really tastefully done, quite small room and en suite, but nicely done. Parking £6 a day, but seemed limited amount of spaces, we arrived early on the Friday afternoon so were ok not sure what the plan is once the car park is full.We were offered the free evening bed turndown service which we took, not sure what it should have been as nothing was turned down but a delicious lavender chocolate was awaiting our return! The staff are extremely helpful, good to see they had plenty of staff on the Sunday morning as lots of people were checking out at the same time. Will be back!

We have just spent the w/e at the Crown Spa. Our room on the 5th floor was comfortable and clean (what happened to the 4th floor of this hotel?). We stayed as part of a large group of Rotarians (D1040), with the hotel providing two excellent 'group' breakfasts and also a meal for 200 on the Saturday night. Check-in excellent, room excellent, bar service and helpfulness of the staff all good. Looking forward to next year.
The hotel is on the Esplande and it is a short walk down to the Spa Complex where our conference was held. Lots to see and do.

Room Tip: We were out the back in 554 which overlooked the taxi garage, so I guess odd numbered rooms would ha...

Once or twice a year we visit 'The Crown' and have seen it change from 'Well Worn' to it's present splendid state. the present owners appreciate that salt water and wind wreck paint finishes, and seem to be keeping up with exterior upkeep. The dead leylandii in pots do need removing from the front balcony though..
We stayed in the Penthouse room 508, which has a slightly reduced view of the panorama of the bay, however it is a very nice room. We have noticed that these penthouse toilets are poor at flushing, and sometimes this can be a bit alarming, but we havn'e got our feet wet yet.
We had a lunch outlide in the sun, but the side order of chips did not arrive with the rest of the meal, as the fryer had not been turned on, they said.
We always use the swimming pool and as usual it was very pleasant and clean and well run.
£15 is allocated towards a bar or restraunt meal, We ate in the restraunt, and the meal was very good, although the pork was served 'Rare', which had to be sorted out, by which time our other meal had gone cold.
We usually ask for breakfast in our room, as we did this time. However this time the bakery basket was uncovered and was cold, as was the toast (I don't mean cool). There was no butter, no marmalade no jam no side plates and little milk, no fruit. I wonder if this was a tray left over from the previous day's corridor clearance. Phone call to reception sorted out the problem, but any waiter carrying that tray should have noticed that there were many bits missing. We will be back, but it was a shame that catering management is spoiling the whole experience.

Room Tip: front penthouse

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. we originally put the leylandii trees on the balcony to create a barrier between each customers private space they have been there for two tears and one or two are now suffering from the harsh elements that the North sea throws at us.

We do tell customers and state on the menu that the pork is served pink as not to destroy what is a delicate piece of meat, the waiter should have cleared both plates whilst your meal was been amended and the restaurant manager has now reiterated this to his team.

I am at a loss to what has happened with your breakfast tray but can assure you that it certainly wasn’t one left from the previous day.

We do feel that we provide a great service and if all customers could take time to ask or point out if they have an issue whilst at the hotel we guarantee we will correct the mistake.

I look forward to you returning to the Crown and hope than any issues however small will be brought to the attention of the management.

Kind Regards

Have visited Scarborough many times over the last 40 years, but have never stayed at this hotel, and have to say, wish I had found it sooner. Staff were very helpful, and there was a good service at breakfast and during the day. The hotel was clean and well decorated.

Our room, although on 5th fkoor was at the back of the hotel, but still caught sight of the see and had a spectacular view of Scarborough Castle. The room had a nice added touch, with a small telescope that you could use to look at the local scaenery, especially the castle, The room was very comfortable, bed a bit too firm for my liking, but everything else provided was excellent.

Good continetal breakfast (I am not one for cooked breakfasts), with a good range of food that included fresh fruit, cereals, etc..

Room Tip: Probably well worth paying the extra fir a sea view, as the hotel sits on a cliff over looking the s...

I will pass on your positive comments to both the staff and management who I know will be delighted. I do hope that you visit the Crown again in the future as we are always happy to see returning guests.

I booked a visit to the hotel for my husband's special birthday, early September, which will probably be his last birthday as he has terminal cancer, which the hotel know about,. A few months before we visited and were shown a room which we were told that we would could have. When we booked into the hotel, the room was so small, much smaller than our bedroom and we were told that we were not able to have the room we expected due to a wedding do!
In the room there was a bottle of champagne and strawberrys with a card next it. Also there was a box of chocolates with a card. Sadly the hotel put their card next to the champagne, which was from one of our friends, which we did not know it was from them and our friends card next to the chocolates. This was so embarrasing. Whilst having breakfast we noticed how dirty the window ledge was it was filthy. I ordered a rose and told the hotel that it was for the table on his birthday at breakfast, sadly they brought it up to the room the afternoon before. It was a really disappointing break so will never stay again. But, I would like to thank Lauren in the reception, she was very understanding and helpfull.
My husband has stayed in many hotels all over the world and also in this country and has never ever been asked to pay the full bill up front

Room Tip: Sea view room

Having sat with your husband on the day of depart and having a lovely conversation with him with regards to your stay. I am extremely disappointed that you felt that it was necessary to leave a review that doesn’t quite seem how things happened during your stay.

I do agree that there were issues but do feel that on the day of departure all had been discussed and my business card was given to your husband to book for the dates required in December. I am sorry that you will not be returning as the issues that occurred during your stay were not the norm and I do feel that a further stay would have been an enjoyable one.

Once again thank you for your comments that I can assure you we take on board to enable us to provide a better service for future customers

Kind Regards

We stayed at the hotel for two nights, we were fortunate enough to stay in the pent house apatments, the rooms are of a high standard with great views accross the bay. We spent a lot of time in the spa which is a great place to relax. The whole hotel has a luxurious feel and an excellent base for touring Yorkshire. The staff make you feel very welcome and provide excellent service. This was our second visit and will not be our last.

Room Tip: The sea view pent houses are great and very quiet.
