“Wonderful stay at The Crown Spa Hotel”
Reviewed 20 February 2013

Stayed for one night at The Crown Spa. We booked directly with the hotel and we were glad we did. 5th floor super modern rooms! View breathtaking! Staff efficient, friendly and helpful. After a long walk we enjoyed a few drinks in front of the log burner. We ate at night in Taste the restaurant in the hotel. We were very impressed. Full English breakfast, spa and car parking permit included in our rate. Love this hotel and will return....:-)

Room Tip: 5th floor sea view pay more but worth it!

Once again the we have had a wonderful break at this hotel.

One of the things that make this hotel so welcoming and relaxing is the fantastic staff, I hope the management team realise how lucky they are to have such a good team under them! The bar staff create a great relaxed atmosphere ( the fire is wonderful too) and the waiting staff are attentive but not intrusive.

Stayed in the mini suite again and it is a great room with fantastic views over the sea, a big comfy bed and the separate sitting room give the extra feel of luxury.

Food as usual was faultless and great value as we have come to expect.

This was out 3rd since July 2012 ( each time for two rooms) and we have booked again for Easter.

This was the first time I could actually find anything to criticise ( only minor niggles) firstly one each of the glasses and coffee mugs were dirty on the first night but as I was the only one in the too it was not a real issue and they were changed when the room was cleaned.

Secondly it looked as if a couple of the rooms were going through some modifications (one opposite my room for example) I think it if would be better if the hotel followed its own advice (as posted throughout the corridors asking people to consider other guests) and kept the noise down before 9.30

However these really had no impact on what was another fantastic stay.

Thank you for a lovely review I am delighted you have once again had a lovely stay.

Throughout this winter we have been going through some minor refurbishment in approximately 80 rooms, most customers in January and February have been corporate guests who leave the hotel before 8.30. with this in mind we have tried to minimise noise and disturbance to other customers but to start any later wouldn’t give us the time to bring rooms up to the standard that customers expect.

I do hope that a future visit to Scarborough will bring you back to the Crown as nothing pleases us more than returning guests. I will certainly pass on your kind words to the management and team at our next management meeting.

My husband and I had a 2 night stay at this hotel. We used to live in Scarborough and as we now live in Harrogate we often go for day trips. As it was our Wedding Anniversary o Valentine,s Day we thought a stay would be nice.
We were not too happy with our room, this was very quickly resolved. We did pay a bit extra but it was well worth paying. We had a large room with sea view and balcony. As the weather was against us the first night (snowing) we stayed in the hotel and ate in the restaurant. it was very good with plenty of choice from the lite bite menu.
We had Continental breakfast which was fine. My only gripe is at the prices paid why are all the Cereals supermarket own brands ? Yes i am one of those that knows the difference.
In previous reviews there have been comments about the car park fees. I chose to pay £6.00 per day rather than rely on the on street parking. I am glad i did as despite it being February the area round the hotel was pretty full.
Everything about our stay was lovely, all the staff were so nice and attentive. We can,t wait to go back.

Room Tip: Sea view is a must.

Thank you for a lovely review I am delighted that you had an enjoyable valentines stay.

I do hope that you return on a future date when I will be more than happy to take you to the kitchen and show you that all of our cereals are branded, Alpen, Kellogg’s etc. we do however carry a range of gluten free product that could be noticed as supermarket home brands as none of the larger companies have taken on the challenge of providing gluten free cereals.

I do hope that a future visit to Scarborough will bring you back to the Crown as nothing pleases us more than returning guests. I will certainly pass on your kind words to the management and team at our next management meeting.

This is the best hotel ive ever been to, the room was gorgeous, we had rose petals on the bed, champagne in the room and all modcons including a tv in the bathroom! It really was like something off a film, the restaurant wash beautiful with a relaxed atmosphere, the staff were friendly. The spa was lovely too. From the front of the hotelthe view of scarborough was fab. A bit expensive but worth it!

We had the pleasure of staying a night at this really historic hotel. Historic in the sense that it is one of the first purpose built hotels in the world (if Wikipedia are to believed). :-)
The reception was friendly and efficient and we were soon in our rather remarkable room with seaview and a tiny balcony. You could really feel the atmosphere in the high celinged room with a huge bed and a nice sitting group. But the bathroom was somewhat a compromise, as it had a nice powershower, but somehow lacked the real finishing touches.
We dined at the hotel, and both the service and the food was living up to the 4-star rating. But there were no historic references in the restaurant either....
Included in our rate was Continental Breakfast, and we had decided to buy the Full Breakfast, until we saw what was on offer. It was truly the best Continental Breakfast we have had.
We did like The Crown Spa Hotel, but really couldn't understand why the interior designer wasn't given the last few couple of millions to be able to really finish the refurbishment relating to all the details, like in the corridors, in the bathrooms etc. Then it would have been fully back to former glory. Well, we must come back to inspect in a year or so... ;-)

Room Tip: We suggest booking a seaside room, as the views are remarkable, and they are close to the reception...

Thank you for a mostly positive review.it is believed that the Crown was the first purpose built seaside hotel in the UK but the world? I doubt that.

The Crown was built in 1845 and over the past 12 years has had in excess of 10 million spent on refurbishment, we do have a continuous programme of redevelopment and know that the turn of the corridors will come again.

I do hope that a future visit to Scarborough will bring you back to the Crown as nothing pleases us more than returning guests. I will certainly pass on your kind words to the management and team at our next management meeting.

As regular visitors to Scarborough, we have stayed at the Crown Hotel a few times. Its a lovely place but quite pricey if you want to have a sea view! Saying that, the view is beautiful, even in bad weather - right over South Bay so you may think it worth the money.
We ate in the restaurant on our first night - a nice meal and lovely service. On our second night, as we didn't feel like a large meal we chose a bar meal. There were a lot of choices and the pizza and pasta meal were very good.
The disappointing part of the break was the spa and the general temperature in our room. It was, I must admit, a cold, wintry weekend but our room was not cosy at all and we found the temperature cold and draughty. The spa, which is one of the reasons for booking the hotel, was very cold. The ladies' changing rooms was positively freezing which didn't bode well fro a relaxing time. The pool, jacuzzi and general areas were cold and the sauna was the only way to warm up.
We have visited many times and never found this problem. The weather didn't help. but I would have thought, when spending this amount of money for our room that a hotel in this calibre could cope with keeping their guests warm and cosy on a wintery day.

Room Tip: Sea view/balcony rooms have a lovely view but cost extra per night

Thank you for such a mostly positive review, I am a little disappointed that you found the main hotel cold and draughty as the main complaint we get on trip advisor over the winter is that the hotel is so hot.

With regards to the Spa, we did have an issue with the under floor heating which put it out of order for two days and we have no other means of heating the area, this was unavoidable and was the first time an issue of this type has ever occurred.

I do hope that when you return to Scarborough you will not let these issues put you off and visit us at the Crown again.
