“I make a point of visiting every new exhibition.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 February 2014

This is my local gallery, so I make a point of visiting every new exhibition. Worn to be wild has just opened, and it is very interesting indeed. In the three exhibition rooms you will find lots of dresses which have been inspired by nature, so you will find a kingfisher dress, a hedgehog dress, a fox dress and much, much more.
It really is fascinating, and is well worth a look.
It's on till 20 March 2014. There is a small admission charge of £3, but this is valid for 12 months, and also includes the Rotunda museum.

“You really should pop into the art gallery.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 September 2013

If you are travelling to Scarborough for a day out on the train, then you really should pop into the art gallery. The current exhibition (on till 5 Jan 2014) features over fifty railway posters from the last century, and they will fascinate you, and make your journey home so much more interesting.
One thing you will notice is how little the town has changed, but, of course, the fashions are so different. There are also some old bathing costumes, and a toy train that you can play with too.
As well as the exhibition, there is a lot of wonderful art on show here.
The gallery is situated on The Crescent, very close to the town centre.
There is small entrance charge of £2. (£1.80 concessions) and they are closed on Mondays.

“The Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2013

We visited the gallery to see the Last Stop Scarborough exhibition of old railway tourist posters and other items. A fantastic exhibition, well worth a visit, but more importantly it gave us an opportunity to look round the gallery. What a gorgeous building in a part of old Scarborough that we hadn't previously visited.

“Wonderful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2013

Loved the paintings on display. A mixture of Dode, Mason, Roe and of course Atkinson Grimshaws. Staff were very helpful and were eager to answer queries. I visited at a quiet time and could enjoy the paintings in my own time undisturbed. Will visit again and again.

“'Worth a visit'”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 May 2013

This is a small gallery though you may be assured of a warm and friendly welcome. There are a number of Victorian paintings and several with, not surprisingly a Scarborough theme. When we visited they were hosting a photographic montage of the late 50's and 60's music scene, not really our cup o' tea but interesting nevertheless. overall a bit dissapointing as the space; though housed in a delightful old mansion is a bit small. However its worth a visit if you would like to kill an hour or so. Malcolm S Stott.
