“Very welcoming”
Reviewed 8 December 2012

Ours was just a 2-night stay - we were warmly greeted, the proprietors are very friendly. Our room, was spotlessly clean, the bedroom compact but really cosy and the lovely shower room really spacious!
The breakfast was nicely cooked & presented. After the consumption of fish & chips, ice cream and sugary foods the previous day (which is the staple diet at the English seaside), we welcomed some fruit, ie grapefruit, orange or prunes for breakfast.
As we were leaving, room servicing and cleaning downstairs (bearing in mind it was already spotless) was in full swing, and I was quite sorry I wasn't returning for another night or two!

We've just come back from a couple of days in Scarborough. We went to the Stephen Joseph Theatre but that's another story. We go every year and are always trying different guest houses. This time I think we've found the one for next year. The bed comfortable, the room spotless, breakfast top class ingredients for the price, the couple who run it so friendly they couldn't do enough for us or others stopping there. Just a short stroll from Peasholm Park and the North Bay area. Not too far from the centre of town and the theatre (we walked it in just over 10 mins.). We can't recommend this highly enough, we just hope it is not over booked for next year so we can get in.

With clean, comfortable, well-furnished rooms and an excellent breakfast, plus owners that could not be more helpful or friendly, the Amrock Guest House is exactly what a well-run B&B should be. Thanks!
When I found a blue plaque announcing that Sir George Cayley, a hero of mine that I regard as one of the greatest Englishmen ever, was born in Scarborough - I asked about the museum I expected a proud town to have: to its shame Scarborough did not have one, but Andrew checked on the web - putting me on to the village - Brompton-by-Sawdon - where he had his workshop and conducted most of his experiments; still no museum, 'though! Nichola equally as friendly and helpful.

We had a lovely couple of days staying at the Amrock guest house. Our room was a double on the second floor (room 5) and was beautifully decorated – one of the prettiest hotel rooms I’ve stayed in. The furnishings were all modern and spotlessly clean. The en-suite was also newly fitted and had a really good shower in a glass enclosure. It was an excellent base for us to go off in the car and explore the surrounding area (Whitby, Filey etc) – parking was on road but we were given a free permit from the hotel and found it easy to find a space near the B&B so this was great. We also found it ideally placed to explore Scarborough on foot as it was only 10-15 minutes walk to either the older part of Scarborough, where the castle and church are situated or to the main shopping centre or the sea front so we had plenty of lovely evening strolls. There was a good selection for breakfast – including fresh fruit and natural yoghurt and all of the hot items were cooked to order. The room also had a DVD player in addition to freeview and it was very relaxing at the end of a busy day sight-seeing to come back to the room and watch one of the movies on DVD we had bought with us. Overall we were very impressed with this B&B and would definitely recommend.

Made very welcome from arriving at the Amrock from the owners, Andrew and Nichola. The room was airy, clean and modern. Lots of local information available and special offer vouchers in the room but speak to the owners and they'll guide you in the right direction. What ever your expecting there's always something more in Scarborough, just ask and the information will be provided at the Amrock, btw, if you forget your soap or shampoo when you've been down on the beach not a problem, it's all part of the deal, When you wake up and fancy a full english brekkie make your way to the eating area, all local produce, go for it :)

Room Tip: What ever room your put in, the sunshines at some time of the day, it the hot shower gets rid of the...
