Very good hotel, with all staff offering a warm and friendly welcome and couldn't be more helpful. Superb food at both breakfast and dinner. Bedrooms clean and well presented, but a bit tired in places.

Stayed here recently had a good time. The service was good the staff very friendly. Booking in on arrival was good. food great (hard to find a good chef look no further).and well presented.
Hotel room was good chambermaids do a good job my room was spotless.
some of the areas could do with a little spruce up but I wasnt there to nit pic over all a realy good hotel.
Parking is fairly good if your in a car.All I would say is traffic wardens are eager also the motability shop across are (I cant print on page).I was collecting passengers on coach and they complained to the traffic wardens so it caused a big problem. not hotels fault as said cant fault hotel.
If you want entertainment sorry they dont provide it as not that sort of hotel. if peace and relaxation go for it Ill go again

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. On return from an evening out at about midnight the night porter was more than happy to serve us with alcoholic drinks and tea. We lingered over breakfast the next morning - long after all the other guests had departed the dining room - and no one hassled us to vacate the table. I had a very pleasant swim at 7.30am. The pool was clean, a good temperature and large enough to be able to swim more than just a few strokes wihout turning.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel are probably less likely to suffer from seagull noise!

We booked an almost last minute DBB weekend break at an offer price. We felt that we had excellent value for money. OK the room was a bit smaller than we have been used to, but it was actually better than we had expected, knowing that we were there on a deal. We would be quite happy to stay in the same room again for a good price. It was not shabby in anyway and the furnishings and bathroom were all spotless and well up to standard. We stay in a lot of hotels abroad and at home and one always has to look at the price being paid.

We found all the staff extremely helpful and friendly. The food is not only excellent but excellent value for money as well, with a good choice both for breakfast and dinner.

The free car park and swimming pool are all advantages and the newly refurbished lounge area is a delight to sit in for a drink and a quiet read.

Bearing in mind what we paid [£240 for 2 nights] we have absolutely no complaints and had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. We will be returning before long.

Room Tip: The small rooms are more than adequate and we felt there was no need to spend more for a 2 night bre...

we arrived for the weekend on the friday with a very helpful young girl to great us.The room we were given was No 45,it was like walking into a freezer. The curtains were moving when drawn with the window shut.Had to complain as couldnt remove our coats. The girl again was very helpful as was the barman who found us a plug in radiator.Saturday the heating was turned on after more complaints. Our bedroom was very small not at all like the photos on their website. The lift well all i can say we were lucky it went up and down it is so old.As it was in the garret not good they may have been nicer rooms on other floors. The girl in charge in the dining room small girl blonde with her hair up could have been much more pleasant she is not the first person you want to greet you on a morning with a sour face only words room!!! Also the more mature lady on reception on saturday night sunday morning needs to take lessons for front of house off the other young receptionist.Everything looked too much bother for her.

Room Tip: cant help as didnt see any but dont accept fourth floor or room 45 colditz

This hotel went above and beyond in every way, from helping us out when we were let down by another hotel. The service was excellent from Kevin[The front of house manager] to the barman.
Also i have to give a mention to the food in evening restaurant which was lovely.

Our arrival experience was poor. There was a very unpleasant foisty smell in the entrance hall and corridors - and it was unpleasantly warm. The reception staff were curt. We were given a room in the garret - ie 4th floor. We had hauled our luggage up the stairs to the 3rd floor when a cleaning assistant showed us the lift. This lift is old and and quirky - but its safe enough and it works.
Our room in the garret was small - with a 4' 6" double bed, which is a bit small these days. The shower [no bath] was also small - 80cm square - and the shower room was a bit "tired". But the room had everything one would expect and the TV and the furniture were all new - and it was clean. The mattress was comfortable and we slept well.
The floors are uneven and creak because it is a very old building. [Why not make more of that - as has been done on the outside?] However the landings and corridors are shabby and the wallpaper in our room was a little frayed at the edges.
What saved the weekend was the catering. The food is excellent. The wine is also very good and sensibly priced. Bar and restaurant staff were friendly and helpful. The actual room was overpriced but when you factor in the food to the DB&B rate - it wasn't so bad. And the car park is a real advantage.
The foisty small disappeared on day two - when the manager appeared! And reception bucked up too!
Perhaps this hotel could re-invent itself as a restaurant with rooms? And turn the swimming pond into a water feature and courtyard garden?
We will certainly eat there again but we may stay over the road at the Premier Inn.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a lower floor with a 5' bed!
