Stayed at Palm Court Hotel last weekend, old style grace in a good way. Room 21 is THE room to ask for, it's lovely and light and airy, well furnished and spacious. Staff were all friendly and polite
Didn't stay for dinner however breakfast was very good served in the period dining room, the champagne afternoon tea seemed popular too.Price was also reasonable for that standard, looking forward to return

Room Tip: Room 21 is excellent

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights with friends. The majority of the staff were very friendly and helpful, just one girl on reception needs a lesson in listening. The music in the lounge was very loud in the afternoon which made it difficult to have a conversation. We requested that it was turned down which she did for approx 5mins then up the volume went again.
The hotel overall is very clean but the room we stayed in was in need of several repairs. There was a large gap around the door which makes me wonder how effective it would have been in a fire. The bathroom door hinges needed repair. We had to lift the door up to close it. The bathroom ceiling paper was loose and the ceiling light loose.
The breakfast was average but don't have the pastries as they are not "fresh".
We had the "offer" for our evening meal. £58 for two people. 3courses + a bottle of house wine. Again only average. The lamb was in edible. The waitress was very apologetic and offered an alternative but sadly it put a bit of a damper on the meal.
HOWEVER
We were very happy with the restaraunt staff who were extremely pleasant and nothing was too much trouble.
The housekeeping staff were very friendly.
The hotel is clean.
Good parking under cover, so no seagull damage.

On the recommendation of a neighbour we booked this hotel for a 5 night stay, during June.
The location is excellent being 5 minutes, along interesting side streets, to the town centre and shopping mall. 2 minutes in the other direction to the funicular railway (cliff lift) straight down to the sea front.
Private undercover parking is provided as part of the price and locked between 11:00 pm and 07:00 am giving a real sense of security.
The general condition of the whole building, including the bedroom, is very pleasant and clean.
All of the staff are extremely pleasant and obliging (couldn't fault any of them).
There is some type of food available all day long.
There are special function rooms and facilities available, which looked equally appealing.
The prices are also quite acceptable considering that I believe this to be one of the nicest hotels in Scarborough.
Our only irritation was that we had two occasions when the food arrived at the table quite cold; the mid-day soup of the day, on one occasion, had to be sent back! And the only time I tried a cooked breakfast it also arrived cold, consequently I only had cereal thereon afterwards.
We originally booked on a dinner bed and breakfast basis but cancelled the dinner for the last two evenings and ate out. The evening meals are of the "cuisine nouveaux" type with extra payments for some of the choices.

Room Tip: We had an executive 5ft. bed which had plenty of room, drawers and cupboard space.

Booked full board. Dinner menu only changed once a MONTH. Little choice of main meals and no vegetables! After 2 days changed to 1/2 board. £5.00 extra charge for small piece beef and £6.00 extra for lamb.

Dear Mary B,

Thank you for your considered view concerning your stay with us here at the Hotel. I am sorry that the Hotel did not meet your expectations in relation to the food. Our menu does change monthly and I can assure you that all meals come with vegetables and exciting accompaniments.

By virtue of the ingredients our "mise en place" can take in excess of 24 hours to prepare and construct. Certain dishes use methods including that of sous vide methods, slow braising and pickling makes it hard in itself to change daily. That being said the Hotel and chef would have been more than happy to prepare you something off the menu if requested. Ultimately we do try and celebrate seasonal and local ingredients to give to our guests.

I do hope that you would return to the hotel so that we can exceed your expectations as we do for so many other guests.

Kind regards

Our recent stay at this hotel was so varied I can honestly only summarize it into a list of good & bad points, so here goes: Firstly the good:
Lovely looking building with excellent public areas, nicely decorated.
Extremely friendly and welcoming staff
Only a short walk from the south bay
Free secure car parking.
Excellent tasty breakfast
Now the bad:
Mould all around the bath fittings, tempted to wipe it with my flannel, but then thought yuk! No way!
Torn wall paper in our bedroom
Unbearable heat inside the rooms & in the dining room, so bad I felt sick & faint
No hot water despite a good attempt to raise some from the shower
TERRIBLE noise from local night club, then subsequent fighting until police were called at 4am, we had 3 hours sleep & it ruined our stay, actually had to break out the emergency earplugs!
Pool area VERY unkempt, was still going to risk a swim until we spotted what appeared to be dirt on the bottom of the pool, not good & bitterly disappointed.
If you want our honest opinion this hotel for us represented a real waste of hard earned money & we really wish we had booked a local B&B overlooking the sea for a quick break.
