I use different sections of the rail track regularly to exercise my dogs. It is good to use to create circular walks between the track and the cliff. The Heyburn Wyke pub is a dog friendly pub and the Cloughton Tea Rooms will allow dogs on a lead into the garden. An awareness of horses and riders should be kept especially at the weekend. It is also a popular cycle track and can be a problem when cyclists that do not slow down! Unfortunately most of the track is not suitable for anyone with poor mobility as sections of the track are rough and muddy!

We use this track a lot , great way to escape the main road, good cafés and pubs on the route, in my opinion maintained to a high standard, perfect multi use for cycles, horses and walking.

We use the Cinder Track a lot. We often cycle as far as Ravenscar or Hayburn Wyke (from Scarborough). There are a few watering holes - Hayburn Wyke is the best as it is always open. The Cloughton tea rooms and Ravenscar tea rooms only open certain days a week unfortunately. I wish they had more benches for resting along the track too. There are a few but not enough - they are far apart and often taken already! I also think the cow gates at Ravenscar need to have a smaller gate at the side for cycles, as they are very difficult to open and close due to their size, especially if you are on your own. The track is also a bit dangerous with drops and ruts at the Ravenscar end.

The best bit of the track is the Hayburn Wyke area which is quite flat and smooth with no danger of being thrown from your bike.

I live near the track and twice in 14 years I have heard a steam engine whistle (spooky!).

We did the majority of this ride from Whitby along towards Scarborough. We got as far as the Hayburn Wyke Pub before turning back.
Despite it being on an old railway line there were some long hard drags and the climb from Robin Hood's Bay to Ravenscar is a good three mile climb.
The bit after that section towards Scarborough is very rutted and not the best, yet there were people battling along there with kids on trailers. Rather them than me.
The good thing is that every hard uphill section comes with a long down hill bit so it evens itself out.

Lovely walk - the section between Ravenscar and Robin Hood's Bay is the most scenic. However, I also love to walk from Scarborough to Cloughton, where there is a fabulous tea room. Then walk back very slowly, full of tea and cake! All along the trail, there are things to see (birds, flowers and butterflies) and it is safe and quiet, away from the traffic
