“Left after one night, not a picky person but this place really is bad!”
Reviewed 20 June 2012

Booked to stay for four nights and we left after one, when we arrived we were allocated rooms on the minus 3rd floor the floors had no windows which at first did not seem too bad however the room soon became too warm and with no window to get any air in it was terrible. The room was clean but dated scuff marks on the walls and patches of carpet worn down. There was one lift to get up to the reception area which broke the fire exits were not clearly marked and took us about 15 minutes walking up and down corridors and stairs to get back upstairs. Not sure how it pases fire saftey guidlines no evacuation plans or maps in the room to help you get out, some people would have no chance! The staff that I encounted at brekast were extremely rude as we're some reception staff. The whole place is like stepping back on time or into a retirement home. The entertainment is bingo, ball room dancing or bizzare caberet. It looks grand once you arrive but really it's a shoddy hotel that needs a lot of work. Breakfast was horrible there is hand sanitizer everywhere because of food poisoning outbreaks, the toilets in reception were disgusting with the sanitary bins overflowing. If your lucky not to get a basement room your stay might be more enjoyable but I would not reccomend the breakfast and if they put you in one of the basement rooms run while you can! Only good thing is they gave us a refund for the nights we didn't stay, normally I'm quite sceptical about bad reviews but it was a horrible place and I wouldn't want anyone to have to experience it, pay the bit extra and go somewhere better.

my parents went on a coach trip to this hotel they requested a seaveiw room, when they arrived none were available, they were given a room on 02 level which looked out onto a brick wall and drain pipe(not exactly grand ) others were put in rooms lower down after complaining and told no spare rooms available they decided to go to the travel lodge opposite the food was below average the room was below standard the only good thing was they had some sunny days this hotel concentrates on the mass coach holiday market packing people in and forgetting about comfort and good customer service

away with friends for a few days rooms could have been better one bed terrible one shower not working when asked for shower repair think staff tired of dealing with complaints.
can not understand when booking two rooms together one on third floor other on sixth floor not easy when you dont use lifts.
would only book again if knew what room we where stopping in.
value for money yes , breakfast good plenty of choice buffet style.
very busy hotel , great location not the place for a quiet break.

Room Tip: go for 1st or 2nd floor outside room ,lifts get busy if you want 6th floor

we stayed at the grand for 6 nights, our room was on floor 0 it was spacious, clean and had a sea view the shower was one of the most powerful ones ive ever used.
the food was very good a varied selection each night and it was always piping hot which is important to me. The breakfast buffet again was hot and plenty of options excellent .
this was our second stay this year and will definately go back next year.
the hotel is in need of a little uplift but nothing that would put some one off.
looking at some of the bad reviews i think these people must be very fussey.
i would and have recomended this hotel it is cheap, clean and food very good what more could you want except a bit of sunshine to make it perfect

Room Tip: foor 0 spacious and quiet, corner rooms usually family rooms very spacious not the actic or dungeon...

The rooms are very disappointing, total confusion with which restaurant your eating in. Food the worst I've ever tried. Breakfast was appalling , boiled mushrooms, rock hard bacon, cheap sausages and watery scrambled egg! Even sauces taste watered down !!! Dinner was like a cheap bad carvery !!! Roast potatoes drop in deep fat fryer tasted like chips!! !!!!! ! DON'T EAT HERE EVER !'!!!!!!!! No staff to offer help! You cannot get to reception for the queue of peole complaining and nothing the reception staff can do even tho they are very nice !!!!! Please never eat here !!!! Staying ok if cheap enough !!!

We have just returned from a lovely long weekend at the Grand. It's a beautiful building. The entrance, reception and lounge areas are stunning. The grand formal staircase sweeps up to the ballroom. There is also a cabaret ballroom. We checked in around 3.30pm. A couple of people in front of us but nothing that could be called a queue. The reception staff were professional and courteous. We checked meal times and were pleased to discover that dinner was a three hour timeslot rather than us having to book a set time. The restaurant is spacious and well run. We had a table by the window each time we ate. The views across the bay are wonderful. The food is a buffet system. The choices are varied similar to a carvery. There was a roast everyday plus three other mains such as plaice, liver and onions or casserole. The food was constantly being refreshed so that those eating later had food as fresh as those who ate earlier. Breakfast was relaxed and plentiful. Fruit juices, cereals, fruit, bacon and eggs, toast etc. Tea and coffee pots on the table. The restaurant staff were polite and friendly. Unobtrusive but there to help if required.

Our bedroom was on the sixth floor. We had a stunning view across the roof tops of Scarborough to Oliver's Mount. The room was clean and surprisingly spacious. A very comfortable king size bed and more than enough storage for clothes. Tea and coffee making facilities were good...a proper sized kettle and mugs. We asked for extra tea and milk and these were provided immediately....the same when we asked for extra towels.

The bathroom was clean.....smallish but enough room to move around in and well lit. Plenty of hot water. Lovely deep bath and powerful shower.

We got all this for only £128 as we booked at the last minute.

Overall this is a well run hotel. Staff are courteous and professional. Requests are dealt with asap. The public areas are stunning and the bedroom was comfortable and quiet.
