Wife and I stayed here budget room £35 booked online then told when we arrived that we would have to pay an extra 50p for a debit card transaction which wasn't the end of the world but wish it had stated that beforehand, we were told it only mentions it on the Britannia website not on the third party booking sites, I simply hate hidden things like that, no matter how small you still feel ripped off somehow. We stayed for one night Saturday 18th, you get what you pay for, no window minus 3rd floor Basement, room basic, clean a bit on the cold side. Great Hotel if you are into History and we enjoyed exploring the place which is what we went for. The breakfast was buffet style so you could fill your Boots if you wanted to, cheap sausages and all the rest but plentiful didn't expect much more for the money as far as quality is concerned. BIG downer for any unsuspecting guests that arrive for the first time at the main entrance. They will be confronted by many people stood smoking blocking the entrance throwing their spent Cigarette butts onto the Steps and surrounding pavement, the area was disgusting. I thought you could be fined for throwing spent Cigarette buts onto the pavement but it seems normal practice at The Grand Hotel. A tip for the manager if he is reading this is that you need to sort out this issue, the first thing you see as you approach the Hotel. Find a place for the smokers to go or get a member of staff to clean up the steps every half hour, never seen anything as bad as that before, ANYWHERE!!!!

Room Tip: You get what you pay for, cheap room means possible basement accommodation with restricted access if...

We arrived on 23rd Dec for 4 nights - There was no Christmas atmosphere whatsoever - hardly any decorations up. Our first night there the bar we were using closed at 10 pm. Each evening the entertainment consisted of an hour and a half of bingo, recorded music for dancing either line dancing or sequence dancing, 1 hours in house entertaining, finishing at 11 a.m. On Christmas night there was a "kareoke??",this consisted of the choice from 4 CDs, one was all Christmas songs, one was all Sound of Music songs and the other 2 were very very old war time songs, absolutely disgusting. We were so disgusted we left and came home on Boxing Day. £840 wasted!! Previously we had spent Christmas at The Norbreck Castle in Blackpool and it was brilliant, so thought with this being part of the same chain it would be just as good. NO WAY. DON'T EVEN THINK OF GOING HERE FOR CHRISTMAS,

We travelled as a group of eight with National Holidays and had a great weekend. Yes the rooms are small (5th floor) but they were clean the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was spotless. The food was fine, yes you have to wait in line to collect your free glass of wine with dinner but thats not much of a hardship. The entertainment was fine we had a great laugh and the staff we spoke to were all pleasant.
All in all we would go back again a great value for money weekend as others have said if you want five star pay for it !

What a lovely building what a shame that the owners have let it slip to what it is today. To be fair it would cost millions to make the hotel what it deserves to be. The hotel is well past its former glory but its being held to together by some very good staff who are helpful, friendly and given the general demographic of the clientele being approximately 70 very patient.
We ran out of teas and coffee and we were restocked in minutes with enough to last a week, they also brought some extra towels which was a nice touch.
We had a room on the 6th floor 619 facing inwards the celling was so low that my wife had to stoop and she's five foot 2 so guess what my five 10 frame had to go through. The bed was a double but the mattress was only a 3/4, pointless complaining as other customers had already done it without success. The room also has a strange smell luckily we were only there for two nights so apart from showering and sleeping it wasn't an issue But still an issue that shouldn't happen. We were aware that some people had been moved from one room to another only to find the new room was worse than the one they moved from.
The food - we were bed breakfast and evening meal, we up graded to premiere dinning which meant we didn't have to run the gauntlet of buffet dinning for the masses but the food was still like school dinners pre Jamie Oliver, if you like quantity over even a little quality this is for you.
The bar was cheap compared to other hotels £3.30 a pint but queuing was an issue due to low staffing levels. They did their best and were good enough to stand up to people who tried to push in.
In all this place should be gutted just to make it use able. Pull your finger out Brittania Hotels budget doesn't need to be bad

We have just returned from a one night stay at The Grand on a Groupon deal. We holiday in Scarborough regularly but have never stayed at this hotel before and i can honestly say we won't stay there again. Our room was very clean and spacious, thanks to MAGDA our cleaner, but we where on floor minus 3 which was underground and did not have a window. The radiator did'nt work so we reported this at reception. The night porter was sent but the radiator still didn't warm up and as it was January we needed the room to be warm.
We had a 3 course meal and breakfast in the Harbour Lights Restaurant. The restaurant was very dated and shabby. The food was basic and we felt it was poor quality. There wasn't enough staff on a breakfast, as it was very busy, so the tables were'nt cleared quickly and one of the mature male waiters was moaning constantly, which we thought was poor.
Even though it was a Groupon deal and we didn't pay alot, we still expect better quality and we are really disappointed with our stay at The Grand.
On saying this we have in the past had a 3 course Sunday lunch here and we ate in the Premier Restaurant and it was beautiful. We would have Sunday lunch again but never stay there again. Very disappointed.

Visited the Grand for New Years Eve bed and breakfast for 2 nights. Check in went smoothly and found our room relatively easily. Staff extremely pleasant and advised us about parking facilities. Had a double sea view room down four floors into the basement. Room ok, bedding was clean and the room was dust free. Had a meal in the Java coffee lounge which was nice for what we paid, had a meal for 4 for just over £20.00, happy hour so drinks were also pretty cheap. The hotel itself is stunning to look at and much effort had been put into the decorations for the festive season. There were trees in every ballroom, in the restaurant and the foyer area looked stunning with the Christmas trees either side of the grand staircase. On New Years eve the staff worked all afternoon to prepare the hotel for the night time. Streamers, party hats, crackers were abundant in every ballroom and all around the hotel landings. We sat in the lobby as the cabaret room was full but the entertainment was played through and although we couldn’t see them, we could hear them. At midnight the new year was piped in by a piper coming down the grand staircase which was lovely. Complimentary haggis, potatoes and turnip was most welcome after the long night waiting to bring in the new year. All in all we had a wonderful time at the Grand for New Year and
