Oh does this hotel lack TLC we spent 3 nights here the breakfast was disastrous how anybody can serve bacon like that I really don't understand surely not a chef, the bedrooms leave a lot to be desired clean but in need of decoration. There were weeds growing out of the walls on the balcony. Also dead pigeons and seagulls caught in the netting with maggots and flies on them. The ballroom looks lovely until the curtains open and show the stage, this would look better in a village hall surely the wall behind the curtain could have been painted at the same time as the rest of the room so the scuff marks don't show. Shame for such a lovely building steeped in history

Room Tip: choose a different hotel

Listen up. £65.00 for 2 nights is cheap....really cheap ( we had a party of 10).you'd think I had no right to complain.... But there are 2 good reasons to do just that....the room was on floor minus 2...no Windows...wierd smell....didn't feel safe to me,unnerving,an emergency light was always on in my room, very unsettling..And what on earth is that breakfast?....the sausages were like chewing a tramp,s finger.....we know it's cheap, but there is no excuse for that

I have just spent 1 night in the Grand Hotel. Its old and in need of upgrading. My room was ok but 1 night was enough. The staff were fantastic though, I requested a fan and within 5 minutes it was delivered to my room. The staff were very friendly and polite. Breakfast was something else, burnt sausage dry bacon, if I'd not been so hungry I dont think I'd have bothered. Its such a same as this hotel is in a perfect position and could be made nice. I could see that there were some refurbishment going on as there were rolls of new carpets in the enterence area,

Room Tip: Dont expect too much its a low value accommodation

we booked two rooms for my friend, my mum & I on the Easter bank holiday. We were placed below ground level & though the rooms were of adequate size, the lack of windows made it very claustrophobic. Also there was no wardrobe in my mums' room which meant she had to hang her clothes on a hook. As there is no mobile phone signal down in the bunker rooms & no room telephones my mum found this made her feel unsafe, as although we had asked repeatedly for rooms adjacent to each other mum was on the same floor but different corridor. The breakfast was ok fairly standard buffet breakfast with good choice, but generally not hot. Mum left her mobile her room regrettably on leaving; which the hotel said they had posted on, it never turned up! & a false delivery number was given. This left us very disappointed.... Never again !

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view do not end up in the dungeons !!

First i totally agree with A.W. from Oldham comments. This is a budget hotel and if you dont want to up grade then dont moan, you wanted cheap and got it!That said, this hotel was built in 1867 and yes it isn't perfect and still needs some work on it but taking that into account, what a magnificent building. I for one am glad that a company is willing to put their money into this superb building that not many would want to if they came out.The staircase, the high ceilings, absolutely brilliant just take time to look and take you cannot help but be impressed.Problems, well we didn't upgrade and were satisfied with what we got for the money.Breakfast i must say i have had better and to me that would be the first thing i would sort, get that right and you will satisfy a lot of people.Staff, well where do i start must have been in a different hotel to many who have wrote on here and i would like to mention one person in particularly and that's Lucy on reception. If Lucy was a template for the organization then there would be no problems at all. I found her to be very professional and has a brilliant personality. She is a credit to your company and made our visit a pleasure with the effect that we would not hesitate to book again, but would upgrade as A.W. recommended.
