“Never again...............”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

We booked an inner room not realising this was 2 floors below ground level. The corridors were like a rabbit warren and hard to find. Small room with no aircon, more like a dungeon. We went for breakfast at 7.45am and there must have been 400 people already in the dining room. Food was all over cooked, scrambled egg waterered down and bland. On leaving the dining room at about 8,30 there was a queue of about 60 people waiting. Parking very hard to find.

Staying as I write and can't wait to leave, role on morning. When I booked I asked for a room with a window as I was staying with my 3 year old grandson. Arrived to get a room on -1 floor passing the kitchen and staff room. To room 1012. Room did have a window that was frosted !! So couldn't even see the brick wall outside. The bath room sank, the fan is on constantly. This morning I complained, so they sent maintenance down to flush the pipes in the bath. When I went to complain about the fan not being turned off they did give me another room on second floor 224 - does have a window. However no shower curtain/screen, just a shower over a shower tray (bizarre). At 10 this evening had to leave my little grandson a sleep in bed to go to reception to ask some to come and turn light off over the bed !!!!
Food in harbour restaurant is awful to say the least - and you have to queue down flights of stairs. Get rammed to death by Zimmer frames because of a lift which is right where you have to queue to enter the dinning room all this for the pleasure of crap food. What a place. Come on spend some money on the place, could be GRAND, the right location and a very beautiful old building that is being left to deteriorate by its present owners. Never want to come back here again, unless it's updated and bought back to life. Such a shame !!!!!!! Really really can't wait for breakfast. Yes that is sarcasm sorry.

I can see where people say that this hotel is bad. Needs a good refurb with lots of money. However for us it was a 1 night stay on the 5th floor, somewhere to sleep, check in OK, room small but clean, Buffet breakfast was OK and edible. Entertainment was as you would expect, cheesy but good.
bad bits are no parking at the hotel, if your lucky to get a space. the other bad bit is the seagulls, which are nesting everywhere on this huge building and are so noisy, even at night.
For a cheap place to stay and you get a good room you will be ok. But i think that is pot luck.

we have just got back from an overnight stay at the grand hotel and all i can say is its anything but grand. Its clear that in its day this would have been an amazing hotel but it desperately needs money spending on it aswell as employing a massive team of cleaners to go in to give this hotel a thorough deep clean!
The food in the resturant was just luke warm and not very appetising at all, the tables were sticky and all the glasses needed wiping before you could use them.
Theres a room called the library and i looked in to find that the library consisted of a unit holding about 30-40 books!!!!
The cabaret entertainment didnt start until 9.45 and was pretty dire.
The only good point about this hotel is its location. It is just around the corner from the tramway that takes you down to the beach.
All in all I dont think I would stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: avoid the rooms on floor 4, mine stunk of smoke despite have no smoking signs on the rooms.

I know you only get what you pay for but.....
Very busy with lots of coach trips but reception very brusque. Dinner was a nightmare. School dinners were more organised and, truth to tell, more appetizing. Cabaret hadn't begun by 10.15!!!
On a positive note: our room was clean and comfortable, and £3 parking per day not exorbitant.
Loved Scarborough hated The Grand

Not a lot more to complain about than all other negative reviews!! Safe to say that this is the very worst hotel that any of our party of four have ever stayed in!!!Really cannot find one positive thing to review¬!!! , Please do not book this hotel, we booked on a national coach holiday tour and in view of the standard of this hotel I doubt very much that we will be using them or a Britannia group hotel ever again!!!

Room Tip: Speaking to other guests, all rooms seem to have ha their problems!!!

We stayed here some years ago and had a lovely time so we thought we would give it another go, just for the night. Dreadful! That is pretty much the right word to describe the evening.

Like my restaurant review (see below), I’d prefer not to rant on. I’ll simply say that, compared to our previous visit, we were completely stunned at the difference. It was just so much worse than before. Everything. Worse.

Out of respect for our previous stopover, and for the fact that it really is a fine, majestic building with abundant heritage, I am not going to extrapolate further. It may be somebody’s cup of tea as it is now but not ours, and I'm afraid that this was our last visit – unless someone buys the place and throws a few million at it in improvements!

The Harbour Lights restaurant (within The Grand):

I'm not going to seethe on about my meal here. Suffice to say that the food was truly appalling, possibly the worst meal I've ever had in a restaurant. Everything about it was bad. I'm sorry but words simply do fail me to even begin to describe it.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms below ground level at all costs! No windows and an almost indescribably bad smell!
