My Husband & I have just had a four day stay at the Grand, we check in at 12.45 & was in our room by 1pm. Although we were on the lower level, room with no view our room was clean & well furnished, The bathroom was very spacious.
After two days we had a water leak it was coming from the kitchen dishwasher above us & running down the ceiling on to our carpet. Reception staff was very helpful & moved us
without any problem to a fantastic premier room with a great sea view.
The meals was buffet service plenty to choose from, no complaints from us two happy customers. will be back later in year.

The hotel is in a good location for the sea front akthough this does mean walking down 139 steps and obviously coming back the same applies. Shopping is local to the hotel. Parking was a bit of a nightmare as they do have very limited spaces in front of the hotel but we were there for 3 nights and never saw an empty space during this time. We had to park at a local short stay car park which meant we had to keep topping it up and could not pay for the whole of our stay. Food and service in the main restaurant was very disappointing so we upgraded to the premier restaurant which was a lot more civilised (we even got table cloths!) Overall the stay was enjoyable but the hotel is in desperate need up upgrading. The bedrooms were very basic and quite dull and dreary. Probably wouldn't go back.

On arrival we were allocated a room on the 6th floor below the turret room. On opening the door we were greeted by a view of a brick wall and a drain pipe with a spot light shining into the room. This was supposed to be a double room. It had a single wardrobe and no room to unpack, very claustrophobic. The bathroom had been upgraded but was very compact. We went straight back to reception to join the queue of people complaining about their rooms. we were offered 3 more rooms, 1 the same but up the other end of the building, 1 with a sloping ceiling above the bed and the third only had a shower. The fifth room was acceptable - just. After going up and down the very small lift at peak time five times after an 10 hour journey, we were ready to accept almost anything. The room we were finally allocated wasn't serviced during our stay, we had to buy a roll a gaffer tape to seal the window, the room had never seen a duster since it was upgraded. The date of our stay is written in the very thick dust, see if you can spot which room we stayed in. The bathroom was badly designed. you had to sit on the loo to use the sink. Good point - loads of hot water Jacuzzi bath. Food was ok but meal times a bit regimented. We were told off for being 10 mins late for breakfast. Beware this hotel has rooms without windows which we were offered but refused without looking at. they are spending money on the wrong things. They should improve the fabric of the building, windows doors carpets etc ( I counted 6 different carpets on my way down the stairs some very badly worn and extreemly dirty). They should remove the silicone sealant and do the job properly. finish off all the part completed jobs and employ more cleaning staff or retrain the ones they have. The hotel is non smoking which is pointless as you have to run the gauntlet of smokers outside the main entrance every time you leave the building. (Create a designated smoking area away from the main entrance.) This hotel has a lot of potential just spend the money in the right place and employ staff that understands what their job function is. I will not be returning until these reviews improve considerably.

This hotel is in the middle of a long upgrading process which will take years to complete. On arrival our tour bus was met by hotel rep who gave us our room keys and the rest was left to ourselves to find our room. the room was ok,warm and clean or so we thought until we tried to look out at the sea view. The windows had not seen maintainance of any description for years and that included washing inside and out. On complaining about them we were told someone would call and have a look (still waiting).
The meals were the usual buffet type and we did not find much wrong with them.
Entertainment was supplied by a team working in the hotel and they done a good job.
On our way from our basement room we passed the kitchens and there was blood stains on the floor leading to the lift which patrons had to use for 4 days we were there.
I cannot recommend this hotel for cleanliness or courtesy of the staff.

Stayed for my special birthday treat '50'. Read the reviews before we went and spoke to a friend who had stayed here who said its was not that bad. Well the problems started the minute we walked in the door. There was a queue for 3/4 of an hour to check in and we were then told there was no car park for the hotel. I had a injured knee so stayed with the luggage whilst my husband tried to find the NCP car park 'just round the corner'. 1 hour later he returned. Because of the 1 way system and road works it had taken that long to find it, but only took 3 min. to walk back. The room was beautiful having been refurbished and we had a sea-view. It was warm and we had a double jacuccsi bath. Dinner was buffet style they kept running out of food and not to my taste. If you were veggie you had to order well in advance. I decided to have a bottle of wine but was told very rudely that I couldn't have one till the wine waiter returned. What she meant was there was no one to open it for me. We had a 1 hour free bar with the deal but that was a farce the queue was so long it took 3/4 of an hour to get served. If you did not take your glass back to the bar you could not get another drink. In the end we gave up and went into the town and found a lovely pub, and charging half the price of the hotel. The day we left we were up very early I am very glad we were as the queue for breakfast was out of the dining room and up the stairs in the hallway.
So like I said at the begining DONT STAY HERE.

This stay was one of the worst places we have stayed in, so bad that we left early. The staff were rude and unhelpful, the first room that we had was dull and depressing, it was supossed to have just been refurbished goodness knows what it was like before. The next room was windowless but brighter looking than the first!. Mealtimes were a joke, nothing against self serve if the heat lamps are all working so that the food is hot. Not much of a choice either. Then of course the next day when you expect the room to be serviced to find that only the duvet had been thrown over the bed, not even tidily, and the bathroom not touched. The excuse that the manager gave was that it was not a star hotel, surely this should not make a difference and why not aim to getting a star? We will not be returning or recommending to any one else.
