“take your pick”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

Scarborough is not short of places to get fish and chips! We walked along the sea front looking for a queue short enough to not put us off (sunny May Bank Holiday - the world and his mother were on the seafront) and looked at the trays of food people were carrying away from various places, those from Bamfords looked good and we werent disappointed, the high turnover of the busy day probably helps a take away outfit like this so the chips and the fish were fresh and beautifully cooked with no old oil taste and crisp batter, fish cooked well. It probably tasted better because it was eaten with a wooden fork out of a cardboard tray sat on the harbour wall on a sunny day. I would be prepared to believe that we would have had just as good from several other shops but this place got my vote this week.

“Poor Food, Slow but friendly service”
Reviewed 12 January 2014 via mobile

Following a 3 mile walk along the seafront at Scarborough on a breezy, 2C day we were looking for somewhere serving hot food to warm us up.

There are plenty of fish and chip places on the front at Scarborough but this one has a cafe extension on the back so you can sit inside !

I notice also that they have 5 stars on the Scores on the Doors (FHRS) scheme. Our visit time: 13:45.

They were busier than they had expected to be apparently hence a bit of a delay in placing our order.

We ordered 2 small (6oz) fish and chips at £7.80 each and a kiddies fish finger and chips @ £3.95 plus an orange juice for our daughter at a cost of 90p for a tiny glass (about 200ml).

This place is a chippy so if shouldn't take very long for the order we placed - this must surely be the commonest meal on the menu - but it still took 35 minutes to turn up

Tea - tasteless and very cheap tasting using water from an urn most likely therefore it tasted rank. It was hot though so better than nowt as they say locally...

Bread and butter - good but arrived ages (15 mins) before meals so we'd eaten it before the chips turned up - and there were loads of 'em so if you want to get fat then you've come to the right place :-(

Fish and chips poor. Chips not very hot. Fish very greasy with a load of loose batter bits on top. Vinegar was definitely watered down; or a very cheap brand as it tasted of nothing.

In fairness, toilets were clean, and service, although very slow, was friendly enough.

Credit cards are only accepted for transactions over £10 too so watch out if you're on your own.

Nowhere near as good as other places I've visited just up the coast in Whitby.

“Take-away fish & chips”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

Best fish and chip take-away we have come across down by the harbour so far. Just a shame it's another establishment that seems to closes out of season.

“The best chippy in Scarborough :-)”
Reviewed 1 October 2013

We are regular visitors to the Yorkshire Coast and always make a point of a visit to Bamfords..we've had both take-away and eaten in the restaurant and have never had a fault with either. Lovely friendly staff and their chips are the best I've tasted. Well worth the extra few steps from the other chip shops on the front.

“Awful”
Reviewed 5 July 2013

We did not go in the cafe but just to the shop. The man who served us was rude and lacked basic customer service skills. He snapped at us and had a couldn't care less attitude. The fish was literally dripping with fat (the fat dripped off it onto the floor. The fish was slimy and underdone and the chips were soggy. We threw the lot in the bin because we knew we would not have got any refund from this rude man.
