We stayed at The Clifton on a KGB deal. The hotel does need updating and is a bit dated. But if it's just a quick stay your after. It's not bad. The room was standard size and clean. The bed was very comfortable and clean. The bathroom bit small but again clean.
The breakfast was lovely. Help yourself to toast, cereals and full cooked breakfast. Staff were nice and pleasant. We reserved a car space and were pleased to be to drive straight in.
The hotel is on the north parade and quite a walk to the south. Better off getting the bus on the prom.
Overall we enjoyed our time in Scarborough. The hotel suited the price paid with KGB. Would have been disappointed if paid full price. Would be lovely hotel if has major overhaul.

Got this hotel on a cheap deal but would not have paid the full price! We upgraded to get a better room, the room was very dated and had'nt been cleaned properly, we had to ask for the room to be hoovered as it hadnt been done. The bedding and bathroom were clean but the windows looked as if they have'nt been done for years! I have never seen so much dust and cobwebs in one place, the place needs a good clean!

The staff were friendly and helpful. I paid £6 for a parking space but later that night there were cars all over and I would'nt have been able to get my car in or out.

I would'nt recommend this hotel and would'nt return, glad I didnt book two nights!

Booked via a kgb deal so got it really cheap, thankfully - so glad I hadn't read any reviews beforehand!

Reception staff were clueless as to the parking restrictions on their street, we had to go looking for someone in the bar to get our room key on our return and we had to wait on every occasion we visited reception for staff to finish their conversation before being acknowledged.

The whole place was dated and dingy looking, although seemed clean enough to me. Room was awful, but clean and the shower was good. Beds were comfortable enough and apart from the decor, no complaints for us, however one guy told us at breakfast that the water was streaming into his room and he was just given a bucket!!

Breakfast was a greasy mess, with the nastiest sausages I ever had! There was a sign that said wait here to be seated, but when you did the staff looked at you as though you were retarded and it was an effort for them to come and greet anyone coming into the dining room. Nothing was replenished without being requested by a guest, and even then it seemed an effort. Guests were waiting around waiting for things all the time. My salt cellar was empty and when I asked for salt, the waitress brought another empty one!

The deal included the use of pool and spa facilities in its sister hotel in the south bay area. After driving round for 30 minutes trying to park we gave up. Went back the next day and got in the pool - the pool itself was fine but the rest of the place was a disgrace - filthy looking, no staff around, the toilets were flooded and the locker door fell off in my hand!

Unless you're desperate, I'd shell out a few more pounds and go somewhere else

Better than expected, cheap and basic with friendly staff. Food and drinks were a little expensive but there are plenty local restaurants and the hotel had a happy hour (half price drinks) with in house entertainment.

Room needed a little bit of a better clean and some TLC as the window let in water and wind but we had a nice hot radiator and an electric heater. Tea, coffee, sugar, milk, shower gel, shampoo/conditioner, kettle, cups, and glasses are available in the room. After a cold night with blankets (no duvets on beds but didn't ask at reception) the room was cleaned and restocked and we were happy to find we'd been given an extra woollen blanket. Staff were very helpful on booking out when our car needed bump started.

Value for money and after comparing other b&b's whilst exploring Scarborough I think the reviews are a bit harsh.

Room Tip: Rooms near lift can be a little noisy

The Hotel is very dated and reflects this. But has good food and service. The rooms are in need of an overall but if you pay cheap that is what you get, our room was cleaned daily. The staff are excellent, and you dont have to wait for ages to be served. If you do not have a car to get into town it is quite out of the way. And the beach is one hell of a walk down to, but from what i could see, it was clean. When there, look toward south beach to the ruined castle on the hill and see the 'FACE' in the night sky, then try and take a photo of it, good luck... It is quite spooky. Overall we had a great time there so no real complaints.

Room Tip: Room 359 has an excellent all round view, quiet, and a comfy bed.

Our 11th wedding anniversary at the Clifton Hotel .... Arrived on Friday afternoon and greeted by the lovely staff on reception, but sadly in my opinion that's where the good STOPPED, we had a room at the top of the hotel. and paid an extra £30 for a seaveiw which was stunning but we should have waited and paid £10 on arrival. We paid £18 for reserved parking only to find out that it was FREE just no gaurentees of a space, but as it happened there were plenty. The room was DISGUSTING there was VOMIT splashed up the wardrobe, stains on the carpet, the bed was huge but to make it softer they had put on a big pink fluffy blanket in the mattress .. The white quilt cover had a large coffee stain. Moving on to the Bathroom well the bin still had rubbish in, the bath and sink had hairs, there was a champagne cork in the corner, a cracked bath .. soap scummed holder ... I went and complained they said they could move us but had no other rooms and that this was one of there better rooms !!!!. would have hated to have seen one of the worst rooms. Give the reception staff there due they did get the room cleaned or should i say asked a porter to do it, he would have been as well NOT bothering. There was a dance group in. so breakfast and dinner guests were pushed into a back dining room which was cold and very uninviting. The meals were very good would have been great had they been served on HOT plates the bread rolls served were part baked and COLD I certainly would NOT pay £25pp for evening meal. The staff on the other hand seemed to be over worked and very very stressed and minimal. But they did work hard. we asked for an alarm call, we slept in !!!! because the alarm call never happened as like other guests, we then found out that they had NOT put the clocks forward............. If you go just remember this is not 5* nor 4 nor 3 in fact i would probably go so far as to say it really only deserves a 1* .... so if you can look past that and accept that it it is a very old hotel then you will be fine .... NO ATMOSPHERE
