We had booked on a Living Social deal.£59 for 2 nights bed and breakfast and a 2 for 1 evening meal thrown in.
The hotel is in a great position overlooking the North Bay and 2 mins from Peasholm Park.Car parking was 12.00 pound.6 per night for 2 days, but we didnt stay as we were relocated to the Royal after complaining about our room.
We had booked a double room, when we arrived it was a very small room. The double bed was in fact a 3/4 bed and it had a single headboard pinned to the wall, and approx 6 inches above the pillows was a lamp, which would have obviously been a hazard to anyone sleeping under it.
The double wardrobe was approx 12 inches wide and contained 2 hangers, obv not enough for 2 peoples clothes etc. Also a small shower and toilet. In the toilet was a light switch which when activated switched the toilet light on,but ALSO turned the lamp under the bed too,so anyone in the toilet at night would wake anyone up in the bedroom. We went to reception and asked for another room,we were offered a twin, which we of course declined, and then the guy on reception said he would relocate us to another sister hotel the Royal, which he did and it was fab!!

The Clifton Hotel is unfortunately very tired and in desperate needs a facelift. The cleanliness of the hotel is also open to question – the coffee cups in our room were dirty and there was pubic hair on the bathroom floor! It’s all such a shame as the hotel occupies a marvelous location perched overlooking the north bay and in its day would have been spectacular.

Just spent 4 nights and we really enjoyed our stay. cleanliness was a bit to be desired in room. but food was good. Barman leigh seemed to be run off his feet serving in bar and restaraunt and nobody seemed to help him but he always served you with a smile. we did not know that if we wanted to put drinks on our room we had to get our credit card preauthorised as we were not told at reception but leigh the barman explained it all to us and to other guests too. Withl all the service he gave in Bar and Restaraunt he is a Credit to the Hotel wish I could say the same about the rest of staff. we would stay again

From a distance this looks a nice hotel. Then you get close! Very dated and shabby. That wouldn't have been so bad if it was clean. Room overlooking fire escape, window frame hanging off. Couldn't open window. Tiny room. Blanket on bed, no quilt (that was in the wardrobe without a cover). Evening meal should be £25! We paid £10 and that was enough! Receptionist didnt give us fob to work lights so had to go back down 3 flights of stairs. Good points- good position, waiting staff friendly. Planned update can't come soon enough.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else!

Had a kgb deal and only paid £29 for bed and breakfast so was not expecting too much. Very small car park, but the reception staff will give you a disc to park right outside for free for two hours and you do not need a disc on a saturday night after 5 and before 12 on sunday. Communal areas dated and carpet very worn in places, taped up on the stairs. We were in room 241, a double, blimey it was small you could just get one person standing in the room, and the bathroom is tiny. However great sea view, bed comfortable, spotless bedding and towels. Breakfast in the morning fine, fry up, all fresh, cereal, toast, porridge, tea, coffee and fruit juices. Staff constantly cleaning tables. Handy for central scarborough. For what we paid it was fine, but if I was going for more than one night I would probably pay more and book somewhere else.

Room Tip: Sea View room.
