Good hotel, needs updating, clean and tidy. Food was excellent, especially the buffet breakfast which you helped yourself, as much food as you liked.Staff friendly and very helpful. Had a very enjoyable stay and would definately recommend this hotel and would go back again.

Booked to stay here through Hotel.com for 1 night. Everything was paid in full. Travelled all the way from Birmingham and went to check in around 930pm and the staff at reception said they had ran out of rooms, even though i had booked in advance. They said there was nothing they could do, and they had just been giving out rooms to people who walked in at a higher price. Therefore, they were willing to let down the customers who had booked via hotel.com. They assured me no money would be taken out. At this point i was left stranded late at night to look for another hotel, which were mostly fully booked. This was a disgrace. The state of the hotel itself was diabolical and the carpet and walls were rotten, nothing like the photo shopped pictures that is up on their website. It may have been a lucky sign not to stay there as i am sure i would have been lying on a bed full of bugs judging from the state of the place. Stay away and look for a better hotel for a few pounds more!

Booked this Hotel (KGB deal) back on 28th December 2011, to go the last weekend in June.
Called them approx 6 weeks before that date to arrange reserved parking. Now the best bit....
Arrived on the Friday 3pm looked round the car park for my reserved parking - none, went into reception and was met by a rather snotty receptionist, when I said I was looking for my parking space in the name off........ I was abruptly told "you haven't got one we have moved you"....!!
Why I asked - because we are fully booked.... remember I booked in Dec. 11 for June 12.
We have upgraded you - there's a swimming pool at the other hotel - lot of good with no cossie.
No taking to this woman, just directions to the new hotel, I said a phone call to advise would have been nice - just got a grunt back.

They moved us to a LOVELY HOTEL opposite Peasholme Park. Far superior to the Clifton, and they footed the bill which was as much for one night as we had paid for two.

So thank you Clifton Hotel you really made our weekend by not staying with you. 10/10 for moving us.

Booked in for the Bank Holiday weekend and paid £210, including parking for 2 nights bed & breakfast. The public areas looked nice and clean. We had a double room with a sea view and well the room fell far short of what we'd thought we'd booked. It was obviously a twin room which had had a 3/4 bed put in there as there were still 2 headboards and the light switches where my head lay.The two singles were waiting outside the door on our departure. The window had been opened to air the room but the cobwebs hanging from it had obviously been missed. A cup of tea after our drive? No, the cups had been used and the teabags gone, on telling reception on the way out we returned to find the cups washed out but still no teabags, so no tea before bed. We used the shower once but didn't want to flood the bathroom again on the second day. Breakfast was very poor with stewed tea and frozen bread to make your own toast, my advice is to avoid the cheapest sausages I've ever come across. The staff, with the exception of the lady on reception, can only be described as disinterested if not surly. Also enjoyed playing hunt the barman but at £5.50 for a gin and tonic we gave up in the end. Would have been less critical if we'd only paid half the money asked. Norbreck a much better option in this range

Room and bathroom not cleaned from previous guests. Cobwebs draped on wall with spider traversing along ceiling. What couldn't be seen wasn't cleaned.... under beds, high level fusebox, bedside lamp plus wall plate, radiator chipped and dirty, tv and shelf dusty, fan dusty, top of socket below table level dusty and as for the window, where's the lifejacket ?? Water fast dripped from where top of window was "sealed" to wall ; then further along, drips 1 to 4 started. We used mugs, towels and wastepaper bin with towel draped over it. Reception offered another room for the one night but we declined. The double glazing of the main pane had blown and mould was in the gap plus glass was dirty. The smaller window was cobwebbed and dirty. Shame we couldn't appreciate the views of the bay ! Bathroom dirty in corners, not washed down, shower head pipe loose in wall and shaver socket rusty. Asked for a room clean but this was not done. Spoke to the Housekeeper before we left and at Reception... "Duly noted". The one and only plus of the Clifton for us ? The cooked breakfasts with helpful dining room staff. We understand this hotel is to close for refurbishment and perhaps the staff have given up their "high" standards? Maybe the outside of the building plus it's neglected gravel beds were a giveaway ! My fiend booked this trip as a surprise for me and it was but NOT in a nice way !!

Room Tip: Wait until the refurb has been completed !! Room 490 should have been a single not twin and if clean with windows to see thriough, would have been great with views over the bay.
