My husband and I usually go self-catering when we come down to Yorkshire, but took the opportunity of a special deal at the Clifton. We started off with a 2 night booking, and ended up staying 5 nights. We were absolutely delighted that we did and most certainly will be back in the future, all being well. Everything was to our entire satisfaction and great value for money with excellent food, clean rooms and friendly staff.

We have been going to the Clifton for a few years and it's been going down but this time we were pleasantly surprised, they are slowly refurbishing it the room had been decorated new carpets and beds + bedding duvets instead of old fashioned sheets and blankets. Breakfast buffet was very good. Most of the staff were very friendly the only downside the parking a bit of a nightmare but you can reserve parking at £6 a day.

I stayed here last year, originally was meant to stay at the Grand Hotel which I stay at many times a year, sadly they had over booked so we were moved to this hotel. Gemma on reception was very helpful and gave us a free bottle of wine and a discounted room for the inconvenience. as the hotel was fairly quiet that evening she gave us keys to the room we were meant to have and 2 others if we didn't like the allocated one. WELL the first one was like a tiny inside cabin of a cheap cruise liner, the second was very dated.. BUT the third was excellent. Sea views and a lovely king size bed, modern bathroom also but still sadly horrible large teles which Britannia hotels seem to be keeping onto hoping they will last a few more years.
Breakfast was amazing but getting to the grand was the best part of our holiday.

Room Tip: I would ask for a modern sea view, if not don't stay as other rooms are in bad disrepair

Just had a weekend at this hotel 1st impression on arriving was not good as we found reception staff not that friendly, but once we got to know them we found them to be nice. The food was reasonably ok. Our bedroom was ok but the bathroom badly needed a make over. I was not impressed when I informed staff that certain light bulbs in my room needed to be replaced im still waiting.

Room Tip: If you pay for an upgrade ask for a front sea view room seem to be better rooms.

Having read the poor reviews of this hotel and taking into account the cheap price we paid, we were not expecting luxury. However, we were totally unprepared for just how bad our room was. We didn't pay extra for a sea view as we were only staying one night so we maybe can't really complain about the view of the roof tiles just outside the window - and we were only on the first floor! We are seasoned travellers around the world and this was absolutely the dirtiest room we have ever come across. The carpet around the edges and in the bottom of the wardrobe had completely changed colour because of the amount of dust and cobwebs. The ancient television gave up and died on us. The food for dinner was just about edible - we avoided the 'mixed meat stew' as we had no idea what was in it. The breakfast was fairly basic but not bad. The staff were pleasant enough but not very professional and the strong smell of cigarette smoke on the first floor corridor was unacceptable but thankfully far enough away from our room not to affect us. From the outside the hotel looks fine and has a seafront location with loads of potential. Come on Brittannia Hotels - sort this one out.
