“Great value for money”
Reviewed 14 December 2009

This is our 4th stay at the Clifton Hotel Scarborough, ok its an old hotel so expect wear & tear although its being renovated outside(Dec '09). together with a renovation programme inside. The place is warm, staff friendly & helpful, food good, location good, bed & bath linen clean, rooms well sized & last but not least some great deals / offers £'wise for the time of year we like to visit. There seems to always be some awful reviews for most of the hotels we have stayed in which can be very off-putting & obviously only the reviewer & his/her experience at that time can prevail. Personally I go for VALUE FOR MONEY and the CLIFTON gives us this every time! This last visit we took 2 sets of friends with us & likewise they were impressed with value for money.
PS. I do not work for, & not connected in any way to the Clifton Hotel or the hotel trade.

The hotel is well old,so what do you expect from it. Please dont say up to date mod-cons.
The lift is part an parcel of the hotel. it keeps its history.
yes its annoying when someone leaves the gate open when getting out on the 4th floor, ask a member of staff to run up and get it, THATS WHY THEY ARE THERE.

All areas of the Hotel inc Reception, Bar and Dining Room were brilliant, very polite in their own ways.
The hotel is out of the way. Would you rather stay at the Grand or the Royal IN THE MIDDLE of Town Near all the Bars and Rowdy People outside...Thought Not!!!

If your gonna stay at the Clifton, Expect it to be an old hotel with old rooms and historic lifts,
Yes there is the odd lick of paint needed here there and somewhere else but thats old age, Im sure if your 86-100 your no spring Chicken and would need a clean up.

Staff are Helpful, Ask them to do things, The Management are Helpful too, There is a Night Porter on every night, He'll make you a sandwich at 3am if you want one.

Have a Laugh and a Joke with the Bar staff, there not just there to serve drinks they are there to make your holiday as welcoming as possible, so if you see them with there arms folded have a chat with them.

Entertainment every other night,

So Stop whinging of the Hotels Old (we know), The hotel needs painting (we know)
and the lift is too old fashioned (Again we Know)

ENJOY YOURSELVES

we have stayed at this hotel before so knew what to expect the same great standard as always. when we stayed this time we noticed the great things happening to the front of the hotel. Even though scaffold is up you only let it spoil youre stay if you are a moaner realy and you always get them as always friendly staff on the daytime julie smiling and happy as usual and gill in resturaunt always bubbly. we must recomend that the day stroke night porter john should be higher than a porter as he is an asset being lost as he is always helpful no matter be it day or night and extremely inteligent. wat a waste of a good mind. anyone wanting to go here should go if you want a warm friendly relaxing atmosphere.

We stayed at the hotel to celebrate our golden wedding. We are regular visitors to the hotel and, as always, the staff were very welcoming, friendly and accomodating (my husband is disabled and they are always very willing to help). The food was of its usual high standard and the hotel made our visit extra special for us by surprising us with champagne and chocolates - Thank you!

When I saw the price for Dinner, B & B for two nights, I was a little sceptical that it would be alright. We need not have worried. This Victorian hotel is in a great location overlooking the beach and the rooms were perfectly adequate. We were actually given a family room with a double bed, single and two bunks. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. It is probably worth prebooking a parking space at busier times as the car park is not very big. Overall a very enjoyable break and we would certainly return.

We have stayed at the Clifton many times and are always welcomed warmly. My partner has a strict Coeliac diet and is catered for without any fuss. The staff are fantastic, everyone knows us as we are 'regulars' there and get on well with the friendly and helpful Clifton team, who are willing to go out of their way to make your stay a pleasure and as comfortable as possible. Twice a year my dance group take over the whole hotel to accommodate a Dance weekend for 100 people and I am sure the staff look forward to our weekends there, as much as we do. I do recommend the Clifton and always try to get a small party of friends together for our dance weekends. Its like home from home and we are already making plans for our next 'dance-athon' in a few months time. First Class!

We had read negative comments before we went to stay at the Clifton and upon arrival, saw scaffolding around the front of the building, we were rather apprehensive!

But, the rooms were clean, comfortable, with a fabulous sea view. Although it is an old, traditional hotel, it was warm and inviting.

The food was comparable to any in higher star rating hotels that we have stayed at.

There is absolutely nothing to complain about, thank you to all of the staff for a wonderful stay, we would recommend this hotel and stay there again.
