Good food , staff and lager.... Guinness needs attention though, splendid views though parking large vans right out front should not be allowed as it kills the view

“Farrers Bar Brasserie at the Spa - lovely venue but service let them down”
Reviewed 12 September 2013

We ate a meal at the Bar Brasserie which is part of the complex. The decor is very good, light bright and airy- but far too airy. The night we visited was very cold with the wind coming in through the open doors, both to the restaurant and the Spa complex with no attempt or intention to close these for the comfort of diners. The staff themselves were very cold and shivering, but the doors stayed open..... Service also lets down what is a restaurant with very good food, from low priced snacks to higher priced dinners. We ordered some hot drinks to warm us up when we got there and while we waited for what was a very delicious dinner, but the order was forgotten and we were unable to attract attention as the queue for pre show drinks had developed, so our warming drinks arrived just ahead of the food.. Dinner was itself delicious, but they had run out of most of the desserts. There were not many people in the restaurant and yet the chef forgot some of the essential components of our meal, so we had to wait for these while our dinner was getting rapidly cold.
What a pity! I hope the venue gears up to the cold and stormy nights we experienced on our mini holiday to Scarborough. I suspect there was more interest in the heavy seas off the prom outside the door than considering the comfort of diners.
I wondered if the bar/brasserie is struggling to get enough diners now the main season is over and so leaving the doors open they hope passers by will realise they are still open for business... A balancing act between getting in customers and putting off customers from returning. Even though the food was delicious we decided to go elsewhere to eat before the show we went to the next evening- when the weather was even wilder and colder, so we hope they kept the doors shut in the restaurant or put on some heating! Instead of enjoying wearing some new smart clothes I ate my meal wearing my coat and shivering, so the more expensive choices we made from the menu were not really value for money, as I think the comfort of the venue and service are just as important as delicious food.

“The most awesome sea views.”
Reviewed 10 September 2013

I've been here three times since it opened, and I always have the fish and chips.
They are presented wonderfully, and come with mushy peas, a wedge of lemon and tartare sauce.
The beauty of Farrers is its location on The Spa. You simply get the most awesome sea views.
It may not be the cheapest place in town, but it is pretty classy, and would be the perfect place to dine before seeing a show or concert at The Spa.

“Farrer's Bar & Brasserie - Impressed”
Reviewed 28 August 2013

We visited this bar on Bank Holiday Sunday afternoon after being disappointed with the food choice available down at the Spa conference area (had a works canteen feel about it!!!) It was such a relief when we walked into Farrer's, light, airy and interesting food on the menu. I had the Brie & Chilli Foccacia which I throughly enjoyed and my husband wished he had ordered (his choice was the Club Sandwich - looked good enough to eat!). It was washed down with a chilled glass of something pink and we sat back and soaked up the atmosphere. People need to give this place a chance its new and new always takes time to embed but I would definitely visit again when next in Scarborough.

“Farrer's Bar and Brasserie - great breakfast very average service”
Reviewed 5 August 2013

This bar and brasserie could be so much more. We walked past the venue this weekend and what was most noticeable were the piles of crockery on the outdoor tables and on the floor. The venue could do with a few more tables outside so that customers can enjoy the sea views whilst having a drink or dining. We then went for breakfast on Sunday morning, full cooked English breakfast which was great however we had to wait 25 minutes on 3 coffees and 35 minutes for the breakfast. Surprising being that there are only 4 breakfast options to choose from and the venue wasn't even packed. I've been to the Brasserie for Saturday afternoon drinks before and there always seems to be a general sense of disorganisation with the bar and waiting staff, maybe employment of a few more people would help. It is a shame because with menu looks good, the location is great and with the right waiting team, this venue could be a top notch.
