Great course, very old established course the rough is rough, and one bunker is big enough for a double decker bus!
The closing hole is class, blind tee-shot the a shot between trees to greenwith bunkers guarding the green, very tricky but great hole
Yes the clubhouse does have strict dress codes, I usually dress smart casual, but as a treat why not obey the rules. And come prepared for a little bit of history's hey provide towels have modern facilities, so it's worth a little effort.

Was looking forward to a test of my admittedly average golf and the course was not found wanting. Tough if you miss the fairways with fantastic greens. The set up for the day seemed to be our inability to order a bacon roll, finally being directed to use a phone and then when served, due to not having a blazer and tie, moving 2mtrs to another chair across an imaginary line. The two ball due off behind us, we let start ahead to the usual pleasantries. However our visiting fourball was then followed by a couple of members threeballs then 3 or 4 members 2 balls. We let 3 of them play-through as they seemed to be on a race, picking up if the shot was too tough or if one or other was closer to the pin and were ultimately told that we should not be holding members up. Seems our cash is good to help with upkeep and lower their fees but clearly we should not feel this gives us any right to play a proper game of golf.
Much more friendly courses locally at Kirbymoorside and Scarborough South Cliff who want visitors to experience not just good golf but a good welcome too.

Worth a visit but not up to the hype . Very well bunkered indeed but greens not the best. Probably not worth the expensive green fee.

Played golf all over the world but not in this NE England out of the way place. Finally got it off my bucket list. Linksy if not a true links. Some great holes and a couple of weird ones, fabulous bunkers! Played 2 days in a row in sunshine and only a breeze but certainly no pushover. A little stiff, based on its history. Worth a visit.

We traveled from the US to play Ganton and other surrounding courses. We had a lot of expectations on the Ganton course and it met them for sure. The bunkers were as tough as we are told they are, and the layout was great, a good combination of length and complexity. The staff was very friendly (Mick the starter was very friendly, and so was the golf pro in the golf shop). The vicinity to other golf courses, the cute town of Bridlington (Stayed at the Revelstoke Hotel), York, etc. made a great overall location for golf. A great location for a guys golf trip, combined with some excellent historical sightseeing.
