“We had THE best time at this lovely hotel”
Reviewed 28 March 2012

If, like me, you have scoured sites for the best place to stay in Scarborough and are losing the will to live - look no further!

I booked a group of 18 people into this beautiful hotel for a weekend in March 2012. We ended up taking over each of the 12 rooms. We had 4 children under the age of 15 with us and consisted of friends who, mainly, had grown up in Scarborough many years ago.

From the start of booking Tom has been immensely helpful (above and beyond the call of duty). He emailed with ideas of where to eat, how to organise the rooms with the number of people staying and even got in wheat/dairy free foods for those on special diets.

The hotel is simply beautiful. Great care has been taken with the refurbishment and every room was spotless, comfortable and luxurious. The breakfasts are excellent with a wide range of options to suit all. The 'Full English' was popluar but so was the fresh fruit bowl, the bagels and the variety of bread/croissant with accompanying preserves.

The views are stunning and it really is possible to walk down to the North Bay, or across to the Castle and South Bay or into town in under 15 minutes.

I saw that there were less expensive places in Scarborough but you really won't get the attention to detail, the relaxing atmosphere or the overwhelming feeling of 'being at home'.

There was genuinely no down side to staying here and we will definitely be returning - sorry Tom!

I should also mention that Lianne, who takes charge in the breakfast room, (along with numerous other jobs in the hotel) is the font of all knowledge when it comes to Scarborough. She knows the town like the back of her hand and also knows all the charcters from the old part of town where the fishermen live. I was also impressed with her ability to know ALL our names by the second day, which was really impressive.

You will not be disappointed by The Helaina and I would be more than happy to chat with anyone who had any specific questions regarding staying there.

Absolutely 5 star on every point.

Room Tip: Yes, the back rooms lack a sea view but, as you are right on the North Bay, you can take two steps o...

Stayed at this B&B for one night while on a overnight break in Scarborough and we were greatly impressed by the place. We usually stay at the Royal Hotel but fancied trying a B&B for a change and we were not disappointed. The whole property is nipping clean and very well appointed. Staff very friendly and made us feel very welcome when checking in and during the delicious breakfast the following morning. We had a premium view room and it was more than adequate with everything you would expect from a 5 star B&B. The bed and pillows were very comfy and the sheets good quality. I would definitely return to this place and strongly recommend trying it next time you are in the area.

Room Tip: Sea view (room 4)

Clean, modern and, best of all, welcoming friendly staff. The breakfasts were amazing - a good choice, even for a fickle eater like me. Fantastic location and good facilities to park near to the hotel. If I was pushed to make any comment it would be the size of the room being a little on the small side for a double bed.

If your thinking of staying at The Helaina.. look no further & book it ! We had an excellent 3 day stay in the Bijou Double En suite from 27/10 to 30/10. This room was nice, warm ,cosy, clean & had everything you required. If you don't like climbing 3 flights of stairs then this is not the room for you.
We didn't mind not having a seafront view as we travelled around the coast most of the day.
There's a wide choice available for breakfast ...& was cooked to perfection.Leanne was very helpful during breakfast & enjoyed a nice chat with her guests which made our stay very homely.
The location is close to the town centre which you could walk but also close to the beach.
We are unable to give any negative feedback & will definitely return next year.
Thank you Tom & Leanne for making our stay a memorable one..a pleasure to meet both of you.

This hotel is situated on the north bay, an upward walk from the prom and over looks the sea. ideal position for town and both beaches, peasholm park also within easy reach.
refurbished to a high standard and very clean, excellent breakfast and service, back bedrooms are very small, but ok for a one night stay, would advise to book a front room with bay window which has a lot more space and worth paying the extra for. Parking is not a problem as a permit is given on arrival for the duration of your stay.

Room Tip: Book a delux double room which has extra space.
