Wonderfully welcoming staff on our two night break. Last orders for dinner is 7.30pm but as we were late setting off, our predicted arrival time was just after 8pm. When I rang to inform them the friendly receptionist read out the menu and organised for a main course and dessert to be kept warm for us. Unfortunately the cot that we had requested was not in the room but the next evening when I mentioned it the staff were extremely apologetic and sorted the problem despite housekeeping having already left for the day. The menu changed daily and was to a good standard and quickly served for such a busy hotel. As soon as we checked in we were given a free parking permit which meant we could leave our car the entire weekend without worry. The old style lift is quaint and rather exciting for my two year old daughter and she enjoyed the small hotel pool (towels available for free at reception) although it could be a little cramped if any other were using it however this is unlikely when it is open 24 hours. Reception was ready to give advice on how to get to the places we had planned to go and gave some good advice on other places that we may be interested in.
The hotel is situated on the cliff above the Spa in Scarborough and we had a wonderful view of the sea and coastline from our bay window. There is a tram that descends the cliff directly opposite the hotel and leads to the sea front bus stop that will take you all along the south and north bay and through the town. It was a wonderfully welcoming hotel giving easy access to Scarborough's attractions whilst remaining secluded and charming.

Room Tip: Definitely worth asking for a sea view

we stayed here as a coach party and were greated on the coach then again as we entered the hotel our room was as the front and looked out to the sea and onto a small park a lovely outlook the room was a decent size the beds comfy plenty of room to move around the bathroom was small but adeqet for what you need. Both the evening meal and breakfast were good the sevice was quick and the waiting staff were all very pleasant and helpful the food was delicious with plenty to choose from at the evening meal and breakfast. Our room was cleaned thoroughly every day by a lovely housekekeeping lady.We had a most relaxing stay and would definately go back again.

Room Tip: the 3rd floor at the front gave good views

From the moment we checked at reception everything went smoothly. The choice of food was very varied something for everyone. It was cooked to perfection and the service was very efficient and courteous. The Red Lea is situated right opposite the cable lift and descends to the Spa where the sea front bus terminates.so very convenient for people without cars.I would certainly recommend the Red Lea to family and friends.A very enjoyable breakThankyou

Stayed at the Red Lea Hotel for 2 nights bed breakfast & evening meal & paid a little bit extra to have a Sunday dinner before our travel home & it was worth it!
On our arrival, a friendly receptionist greeted us, booked us in then showed us around the hotel's facilities. We were given a free parking permit for the duration of our stay and parking was easy as there were plenty of spaces outside the hotel.
The Premium Sea-View Twin Room (212) was really nice. The large bay window overlooked the gardens and had a lovely view of the sea. The room had central heating, kettle/tea/coffee etc. a TV and even an ipod/iphone docking station on the radio alarm clock. The beds were comfortable and clean (which was a huge relief after last years stay at a different hotel on the North Bay!) The bathroom was very clean with a bath & overhead shower and bath/hand towels were provided at no extra cost.
The food was really nice and of excellent quality. For breakfast, there was a choice of starters followed by a choice of cooked breakfasts with tea/coffee to finish. The evening meal/Sunday lunch was 3 course followed by tea/coffee/hot chocolate.
Unfortunately, the swimming pool is on the small side! The main part is 4'6" deep and not very wide. There is a smaller shallow part for children. 2 family members and myself were in the pool and managed to have a bit of a swim until another 3 people came in then it was a bit crowded. There is a hot tub but this was not in use. Again, the towels are provided free of charge.
The members of staff were very polite, friendly and helpful; nothing seemed too much trouble.
Definitely looking forward to going back next year.

Spent a weekend at the Red Lee last year to attend a Naval reunion, we're spending a week there this year as we liked the hotel and Scarborough so much. The Hotel is very clean and the staff are very friendly.

The hotel is typical of the Victorian area that it is set in. It needs updating to attrasct younger clientel but for us on our third short break we enjoyed it. The staff at the desk are very charming and helpful and as we did not like the room, near the lift, were moved immediately. The hotel is quite expensive for what it is but the swimming pool although small is welcome and towels etc. are provided.

Room Tip: It si more suitable for older couples, as are most hotels in this part of Scarborough.

Just stayed for one night at the Red Lea , well where do I start ?? First of all we were given a room that smelt of smoke , and the bathroom was stuck in the 70 s !!!!!With no shower !!!REALLY it was awful , my partner went to reception and had a word , the reception staff were Very helpful and friendly , and said that they had ( FINED ) someone for smoking in the hotel that day !! They moved us to a better room .Breakfast was POOR , I've had better at Tesco s , it was ALL CHEAP AND NASTY TASTING !! The plates were tiny !!! And the toast was the thinnest bread I've EVER SEEN !!!! And The WOMAN IN BLACK !!! We presumed she was the breakfast manager !!! Stood there the whole time with her hands on her hips ordering the staff around and making the whole experience VERY uncomfortable !!! AT £99 for the night , not worth the money , we ve stayed in MUCH NICER place s for less than this , DEFINATLY WILL NOT BE Returning !!

Dear Guest

I am sorry that we did not meet your expectations at the Red Lea Hotel, we do try to please all our guests, but occasionally things do not go totally to plan. The Hotel is 100% no smoking, and it appeared that the previous guests had smoked in the room, with Housekeeping not passing this information onto reception. We did, as you stated upgrade you to a sea view bedroom.
With regards to our Breakfast, all our produce is of the best quality and our Breakfast has recently received the Breakfast award from Visit Britain.
The Women in Black, as you rudely state, is our Restaurant Manager, who receives numerous compliments for her own standards and that of her excellent team.
