What a find this was. We tend to arrive in a town about 5pm, park the car and walk around to make our choice of where to stay. Well - the quiet location was great, street parking outside with for a small fee of 3 pounds for about 36 hours parking. We were originally only going to stay two but ended up staying for four. The staff were fantastic, very friendly, and very helpful with what to see. Two large lounge areas for quests as well as bar area, and restaurant. Well stocked library with new releases courtesy of a literary group that meets there.

My heart sank a little as I approached the hotel from the Brunswick Shopping Centre, as there is is a big sign for a cheap carvery (Cooney's) which appears to be part of the hotel, although I think more aimed at the public than the hotel guests. However, around the corner in the main entrance things improve considerably. A friendly welcome at reception, and a lift to the rooms.

My room overlooked the gardens and was well appointed in a slightly old-fashioned way, a very nice bathroom with a large bath and good toiletries. Everything spotlessly clean.

As it was bucketing down with rain I abandoned my plan to look around Scarborough and after a drink in the very pleasant bar (with a pint of ale, not normally featured in the average hotel) ate in the hotel dining room (Reflections) which is clearly very popular both with guests and locals. I blew out on the set menu - 3 courses for £21 which was good value and very enjoyable, as was breakfast the next day.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and the hotel is bang in the middle of town, within walking distance of the station. Highly recommended.

Perfectly pleasant hotel in brilliant location, with nice views over the Crescent gardens and across the valley.
The building and room felt a liitle tired, but everything worked and staff were helpful.

Stayed for one night whilst on business. I was made very welcome and nothing too much trouble. It was hot and unfortunately no air con being a period building but there was no problem supplying me with a fan. The room was well decorated with modern colours.
I ate in the restuarant where although not cheap the food was excellent and plenty of it.....too much really for me but the steak was the best I have had for ages (outside of the US).
There is no car park so you do need to drive about a bit to find a place on the crescent.
I would recommend this hotel not just for a one off night but for lovely holiday in super Scarborough.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the crescent mine was onto the road and it was quite noisey.

We're just back from an excellent short break staying at The Crescent Hotel, Scarborough. We wanted a hotel in the centre of town, near to all the amenities and we considered several hotels where we had stayed in the past, but after reading recent Trip Advisor reviews, we decided to try the Crescent, currently second on Trip Advisor and in exactly the right location. This turned out to be a superb choice - many thanks to all recent reviewers!!!

This was a last minute booking, so we were limited in our choice of rooms as the hotel was almost full (always a good sign, and especially away from peak season!). We were given a very peasant room on the first floor (a lift is available if required), overlooking the town - the hotel is on a busy road junction but has good secondary double glazing which was very effective at minimising traffic noise. TIP - ask for a room overlooking the gardens if you want a quiet room, especially in warm weather when you want to leave your windows open at night.

Ours was a basic room, but was a really good size and with a big bathroom also, with full size bath and shower. The twin beds were really comfortable with big fluffy pillows (more available in the wardrobe if needed), great quilt (again with extras in the wardrobe) iron and full size ironing board and decent hair dryer - everything you could possibly need!

We had intended to eat at the hotel on the first night only, and visit a restaurant on the second night but after our first meal we changed our minds - the food is absolutely first class, and much better than many so-called restaurants! In fact the food is so good that many non-residents choose to dine here - there were at least four or five different parties on non-residents were dining here on each night!

The menu is extensive with a choice of table d'hôte menu with three courses for about £21, or an a la carte specials menu with main courses in the region of £18. The portions are generous (I love desserts but didn't have room for any, apart from a teaspoon taste of my partners). There is a good wine list, plenty of choice with reasonable prices. TIP - book a table for dinner as soon as you check in, as demand is high and you may have to wait.

There is a pleasant bar, which is well used by both residents and non-residents alike, and we always enjoy a bit of banter and conversation with fellow guests and staff.

This hotel is well worthy of its high place on Trip Advisor, and we will happily stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms with garden views are more quiet than those overlooking the town

We spent 2 nights at the Crescent meeting up with friends in Scarborough. The hotel has a homely feel with friendly staff. A lot of other guests at the hotel appeared to be regulars and I can see why. We had a specious deluxe room on the second floor which was on the corner of the building which had floor to ceiling windows for a great view outside. The décor was up to date but in keeping with the style of building as was the bathroom which was spotless. The breakfast was excellent served by Denise a straight talking Northern lass who I think has probably worked there donkey's years but again she was friendly and efficient. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Room 22 was lovely

Thank you for an excellent weekend and for the great friendly and personal service. My colleague and I took 3 business guests (from Austria and Germany) for a 2 night stay at the Crescent. The service from everyone at the hotel was exceptional, with a good dose of local Yorkshire humour.

The hotel itself is a an elegant old building overlooking beautiful public gardens, the bed rooms were a good size, very clean and well presented, in a mixture of modern and more traditional styles, the public areas were imaculate and the food was of a high standard.

We are all used to staying in international hotels around the World, but the difference here is the real personal service.

Thanks for a great stay
