“Excellent Food, Excellent service”

Fabulous Carpaccio of beef and excellent Wild Boar ravioli were two of the specials. Overall a good menu. Very welcoming - will certainly visit again

“Empty and awful”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

It's hard to find a middling-priced restaurant open after about 8.30 in Scarborough, so we should have thought twice when the Tuscany was virtually empty. There were six of us and we really aren't hard to please, but the experience was pretty dire. One of the worst things about the food was the ubiquitious tomato sauce, which appeared on seafood starters, on pasta main courses and probably on the pizzas as well. in some dishes cream had been added to the sauce for variety, achieving the taste and texture of good old Heinz tomato soup. The waitress was clearly helping out and was charming, but inept. She called our pre-dinner drinks 'liqueurs', which was confusing. Ingredients were low quality (defrosted, tiny, value-range prawns) and very stodgy 'home-made' ravioli. If it was home-made, someone should take the pasta machine away from the cook. Some other specialities sounded pretty unappetising: pasta with goat's cheese and soy sauce? The owner was rather too touchy-feely for comfort: shoulder massages were not requested or on the menu. He at least was Italian, but seemed to be leaving the cooking to a lad who was clearly itching to get home or off to the pub. Oh dear! But the house wine was nice and we had a good laugh afterwards, even though the bill was as high as for our meal in the excellent Cafe Fish another night. Perhaps we should have tried the pizza.

“Great food, dodgy host”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

Recommended by the receptionist at the hotel, the place was almost deserted so I had some reservations.
However, the food was excellent, well presented and done to order, not just reheated.
The only downside was the overly intimate attentions of the owner / waiter. At one point I thought I was being propositioned.
Next time I will take a companion for protection
