It is hard to beat the quality of food on offer, from the simple but tasty scone, mouth watering cakes and tasty soups. The little courtyard in the rear is a real favourite on a sunny day and if you need a gift, be sure to try the home made chocolates.

Popped In here because it looked a nice place to sit in the sun, food was fine but staff at counter seemed disinterested, had to ask for a knife and I'm still waiting for a napkin. Shame...lots of other places to go in Scarborough.

Many years ago, when we used to holiday regularly in Filey, Bonnet's was our "go to" place-one where we would invariably have to queue to get in. This week I have been to Scarborough Book Week (brilliant speakers-well done everyone!), and we ate at Bonnet's as it is very close to the venues and was always empty. Our first choice would have been Eat Me but there is always (understandably), a longish wait and time between speakers was tight . The first time we went we had coffee/tea and scones-served by a lovely lad upstairs who did his very best but had very, very obviously been given no training whatsoever (and, having waited on tables myself to earn money whilst studying I should know!). A shame because he could so easily be shown the ropes. The second time we had lunch-same lad, same problem-is it so difficult to preempt that diners who have booked a table need cutlery, crockery, condiments, napkins or like ice in their water? A shame as the food was fine (although, compared to Eat Me, overpriced!). The next day was a Saturday! If we thought the lad was lacking, it was nothing compared to the two girls left to man the fort-honestly? I would have been sacked! They did not have a clue!!! There was an offer on display-£3:60 for scone, jam and clotted cream-did that include tea as well? "No!" Well, it did yesterday but never mind-we ordered anyway, a normal scone. They had no idea who they were serving, were not the slightest bit helpful, chatted amongst themselves whilst trying to serve, offered no help in getting cutlery-an absolute waste of space. Again, good cakes-a bit overpriced perhaps but huge scones and meringues! My daughter in law worked at Betty's in York whilst at uni and they trained her within an inch of her life-and it shows! All the staff at Betty's are courteous, pleasant, professional and efficient! No wonder Bonnet's is now half empty! A great little establishment, fallen by the wayside that nobody seems to care about any more!
