I attended a wedding this weekend at Newbury Manor Hotel. I called in advance to ask if we could check in early so we could get ready at the hotel and this was not a problem. We had a quick look around the hotel before getting ready and not only were the grounds beautiful the ceremony room looked amazing. The whole day went fantastically, the staff were all very friendly and attentive throughout the day and evening, the service was great no matter what you needed the staff happily dealt with it quickly. The food was of high quality, there was over 100 people in the day and evening and both the sit down meal and evening buffet was faultless. When the wedding came to an end anyone staying was still able to stay up and have drinks from the bar served by the night staff. In the morning breakfast was as equally good and I was impressed by how clean and tidy the hotel was first thing in the morning as there was no signs of the previous day and the rooms looked ready for another event. All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel for any event or just a weekend getaway.

From the moment we attended the wedding fayre here last year until we checked out the day after our wedding we have nothing but praise for all the staff here. The organisation for the wedding was top class and the day went so smotthly thanks to the brilliant planning of Katie Marie and Jamie. They took so much pressure off us by arranging nearly everything it was brilliant. I also went with their recommended florist, musicans and disco and have no complaints. A number of our family stayed the night before and we enjoyed a gorgeous meal in the riverside bar. The rooms allocated were without any problems and to come down in the morning for breakfast and see the Highclere room and Ballroom set up for our wedding was magical. The hotel very kindly let the guests staying on the wedding night check in early so they could get ready for the wedding in their rooms. From the moment the guests started arriving, through the ceremony, before and during the wedding breakfast, and throughout the evening the excellent service of Jamie and all his staff made the whole time go beautifully. All our guests commented on what a beautiful setting the hotel is and how smoothly every aspect of the wedding went. Many of our guests stayed the night of the wedding and have no complaints about their rooms or the breakfast the next morning. We cant thank the staff enough for making our special day go so smoothly and without any hitches at all. I have no hesitation in recommending Newbury Manor as an excellent venue for a wedding. Our guests all felt it was an excellent choice and a wonderful day. The setting is ideal for some wondeful photos. Thank you Jamie and all staff for making our wedding a truly wonderful day to remember. The only problem was it all went much too quickly. I can see our 1st anniversary being spent there.

The manor has a very beautiful garden with a little river running through. The house is very old but clean. I found the bed very comfotartabe and slept very well in this quiet environment. Service is friendy, the rooms clean and okay, not very Special. The water pressure and temp selection is a bit a challenge but again the Hotel is old landhouse.

We have spent a weekend at Newbury Manor Hotel as our friend booked 2 dbl rooms for us (5 of us went to Newbury Racecourse which is not so far from this hotel). I am surprised to read bad reviews about this hotel because my personal experience is far from that.
Our room was lovely, pretty spacious with a comfy bed and a nice settee. Tv with many channels, yummy home made cookies in a jar :) No view, just a little patio (good for smokers) however we didn't mind because we didn't spend much time in the hotel.
Breakfast room is just across the car park and its location is absolutely spectacular so we weren't surprised to see wedding preparations! They offer cooked and continental breakfast, fruits, yogurts, everybody could find something for himself. Luckily on Saturday and Sunday they serve till 10:30 am so we didn't have to rush in the morning.
Apart from breakfast we didn't have any other meals there as we decided to go to the Crab at Chieveley (you have to go there as food is absolutely divine!!!).
We had a few drinks in the bar at night - they are happy to serve even at 2-3 am!
I loved the air bath however my partner had to wait a few minutes before water got hot enough for a shower (there is a note in a bathroom informing guests about it).
I need to admit I experienced a problem with internet connection however it wasn't essential for me so I didn't bother.
I wouldn't mind to stay there again as location is great, views are lovely, breakfast is tasty and rooms are really nice.

Arrived at the hotel on a Sunday afternoon for a wedding reception which was not before the evening. We knew the wedding breakfast was held in the ball room and thought that would take most of the staff away but we discovered the Riverside bar across the river with a beautiful terrace overlooking the water and the grounds.
Well this was closed for an exclusive function till 5pm so at 4pm as a paying guests at the hotel you could not get a drink/coffee/tea anywhere and also no minibar in the room and no room service offered. The bar near the ball room was stocked with absolutely everything but nobody to serve you at that time as they were all busy with the wedding and the private function, did not really understand why the receptionist is not allowed to go to the bar and serve the hotel guests with a drink and put it on the room charge which you do anyway. The system in the small hotels abroad where the receptionist looks after the reception as well as the bar, breakfast and other services is quite good as i don't think they are busy all the time, they are not really checking in people non stop...So we went back to the riverside bar and waited for 5pm at which point we had to ask for the manager as the staff was still refusing to serve mentioning that they were still busy with the exclusive function.
The better side of the story was that we asked about balcony rooms being avaialble, the one we were given overlooked the car park but we did not mind, however a balcony one was available and we moved.
The hotel desperately needs plumbing as the water was not working properly in either rooms we have seen.....
Don't think we would go back and would only recommend it for the grounds and the river location otherwise it is a bit out of the way and the pub across the road might be fine for some people but if you are on a romantic weekend the bouncy castle, plastic menus and basic service would not impress.....

Room Tip: Make sure the bars and restaurants are open when you are going, ask for room with balcony

Lovely grounds & views by the river. Very disappointed by the Restaurant, very over priced....there's a pub over the road and you get better priced food and more for your money.
Rooms weren't fantastic, TV channels were very hit & miss and the shower was awful....drip drip drip & thaton full power!
If your looking for somewhere just for a nights stay without any luxury then this is ideal and good location for the Racecourse.
Staff were very friendly & helpful so guess that's a bonus!

Stayed 4 May 2013. Newbury Manor has beautiful grounds with riverside restaurant, weir, and acres of water meadow. Beautiful to look at on sunny day. Probably less attractive in the rain as the restaurant is in separate building from the hotel. The weather was sunny for our weekend.
First room (7) TV did not work - moved to room 9. Refused to serve dinner at restaurant at 6:30 even though empty. Room service suggested by Receptionist. 6 attempts to call room service over an hour yielded busy every time. Asked at reception and they were told that kitchen was "too busy" to serve room service so they had taken the phone off the hook. Advised by receptionist to eat at the Sizzler pub across the road.
Breakfast (served 8-10:30am) we arrived at 9:30am. There were still half empty beer glasses on outside tables left from the night before. By this time they had no Tea pots, cereal bowls or juice glasses. 40 minutes to be served. Throughout restaurant they seemed to get orders wrong. Coffee request but poured tea, Wrong kinds of eggs, just about everything that could be wrong went wrong. Everything seemed too much trouble for the staff. 3 servings staff for just 13 inside tables where breakfast was served would seem to be enough if they had any idea of how to run a restaurant. Polite but incompetent is probably the best description of the service.
Food when it arrived was good but probably not what you ordered.
I spend over 20 weeks each year travelling on business and staying in hotels. The service we received at Newbury Manor was the worst in 30 years. On leaving other guests were complaining to receptionist at checkout. I felt sorry for the receptionist who was clearly trying her best!
This hotel is good for a day trip visit but do not try to stay there and expect service. Our romantic weekend away was an embarrassing disaster. This hotel would not be suitable for young children as there is miles of unfenced river and 3 fast flowing weirs in the grounds. Although the restaurant has disabled ramps, it would be difficult to get to most other parts of the hotel and grounds in a wheelchair as there are so many steps. There were two steps to get to our "ground floor" room. No elevator to many upstairs rooms. The grounds had no paved paths beyond the entrance drive and even the car park was rough gravel.
A hotel only good as a backdrop for pictures I am afraid.

Room Tip: Do not select room 7 - window view obstructed and TV did not work. Room 9 is ground floor looking ou...
