“Lovely couple of nights away”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

Stayed here for a couple of nights to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. our room was nice with a TV and bath /shower comfy bed tea and coffee and a free box of chocolates.
The staff were very friendly and made us feel at home, the food is excellent as is the service.
As for comments on the noise from the A4 I had the window open all night and slept like a baby.
Would definitely recommend.

PS. I am pretty sure if you have a problem it would be sorted ASAP if you talked to the staff.
No point moaning when you get home.

I have stayed at this hotel on five separate occasions between 2013 - 2014 and each stay has been better than the last.

The rooms are immaculate and the restaurant and bar are extremely welcoming. The food is excellent with the menu offering a wide but subtle choice which has always resonated with my pallet :-)

An excellent place to stay which is very well located near a number of arterial routes.

Overall an awesome hotel with friendly and attentive staff who make you feel like you are with family.

Dear Steve557460

Its so nice to be able to say that we do have many guests return time and time again, to both the hotel & the restaurant.
This has been a major factor in allowing us to extend our kitchen and begin building "The Barn", our new restaurant and wedding venue (due for opening January 2015).
I hope we will see you before, but if not we shall look forward to your seeing what we hope will be a truly stunning green oak frame barn. Ok yes we are a bit excited!

Many thanks again

Got put in room 14 which has to be the tiniest room up the creakiest stairs in the joint. No fire exit from top floor. Not possible to stand in either then shower or take a leak. No AC, can't have windows open as the passing A4 traffic is intolerable from 4am. Room dirty and not cleaned well, tele the size of a laptop screen. Wifi did not work on any of our three devices. On the plus side - great breakfast, friendly and helpful staff and comfy bed. Sadly silk purse sows ear spirits to mind. Won't ever go back.

Room Tip: Don't stay here.

Dear Mark
My apologies for your being in one of our older rooms. These are the coach rooms and not best suited to your height!

Thank you for your comments about breakfast and our staff, we are rightfully proud of both!

The Wifi was indeed playing up and I have addressed this since, sorry again.

The other issues I shall review, we normally get good comments reference our cleaning but I shall ensure this is addressed also.

If you are in Newbury, forgive us please and we shall ensure you have a cottage room, or our suite and that you see we really can do things well!

Thanks again

Jonathan and Jean

We decided to visit after reading the other reviews on Trip Advisor and were not disappointed. It is in a very quaint setting with a nice big car park, and the staff were welcoming and very friendly. I had the mushrooms for a starter and fish pie for the main course. My husband had the same starter and fish and chips for the main course... the food, all of it, was absolutely delicious and obviously home-cooked. The batter on the fish and chips was the real high point - not sure what was in it but it was just beautiful - like nothing we have tasted before.

It's a shame we don't live closer as I would love to go back - there were people there with kids too so it is family-friendly (we were having a child-free night!) Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Stayed here for 1 night en route to Southampton. Booked it quite late on the back of reviews on website and trip advisor. Room was ok but at 6'2" I had to bend down to get through every door. You could also easily hear the people above and to the side.

We ate at the pub/hotel on the night we stayed and my wife's salmon wasn't cooked properly which resulted in her being ill. This also resulted in her not wanting to eat breakfast the day after and spoiled the 1st day of our holiday. We were offered a free drink and a reduction in the meal cost but when checking the bill a few days later we realised that the drinks had been charged for and only 10% had been deducted from the meal.

Not somewhere we will be going back to.

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel.

Dear Stokie

My apologies for the salmon. To err is human, but not good enough I accept. To then not remove the charge was an honest mistake, but we have discussed this and will do better.

Bit lost on the doors, there are steps in the room you had, which we felt added character?

Our reviews suggest that we do get most things right, so once again our apologies

Sincerely

Jonathan Nelsey

A gathering of our extended family from Calgary to Clapham for our Silver Wedding and more. The Hare and Hounds was everything we expected, flexible accommodation, lovely food and such attentive and friendly staff who went the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable. Highly recommended.
