“Another Visit to the Dew Pond”
Reviewed 31 August 2014

I have just paid another visit to the Dew Pond Restaurant with a large group . The meal and service was excellent as always. However I would just like add that since my last visit the toilet facilities have all been upgraded. This is a huge improvement and very tastefully done.
Looking forward to my next visit !

“Good but not outstanding”
Reviewed 29 August 2014 via mobile

Booked the Dew Pond for our anniversary meal. Had checked the menu online which states the menu is changed most days and the majority of the items were meat based. The menu was identical in the restaurant as online. The menu is more suited to meat eaters as the main course only had one fish dish and one vegetarian course. However you can have a starter as a main course portion.
We did not receive a welcome, just asked our name and shown immediately to our table. Whilst the food was good, service was certainly not service with a smile. We requested a jug of water which was a small jug and was not replenished. For 2 of us dining we had 3 rolls. The only time we were asked if everything was OK was when we had finished our meal. Why can't the bill be brought to the table on completion of the meal and the clients allowed to decide how long they want to remain at the table. It would not take much to turn what was a good meal into an enjoyable dining experience.

“Romantic excellence”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

My wife and I first visited this wonderful restaurant on our first date in 1995. We have been back many times over the years to celebrate birthdays, special days and even my parents' Diamond Wedding Anniversary when we held a family party for 20. The menu never fails to delight us. We have been to many other fine restaurants but we return to the Dew Pond time and time again because it has the best service, the friendliest welcome, and the tastiest food.

“Heaven on a Plate”
Reviewed 15 August 2014

Three weeks after dining at the Dew Pond, I'm still wishing this lovely restaurant wasn't across the big pond (the Atlantic) from me. Located in the English countryside, just down the road from Highclere Castle of Downton Abbey fame, the Dew Pond is as charming as its setting, and our dinner was spectacular. Particularly memorable were the cheddar souffle with spring onion cream (a starter) and the lemon and elderflower posset (a custard dessert that was heaven on a plate). The service was both polished and friendly, and the prix-fixe three-course meal was well worth the price. At one point, as if to emphasize the Dew Pond's bucolic setting, a deer ambled across the meadow beyond the window beside our table.

“Nice but not Great”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

We were a little early and had to wait for our friends a lovely evening so perfect to sit outside and enjoy an aperitif. The garden area was however disappointing. Although the restaurant is out in the country they are not making the most of their garden and there is just a small rather unkempt garden area. It could be so much better.
The food was good and nicely presented, not great but above average. It would not take a lot of effort from the chefs to make the food outstanding. Its a set 3 course dinner menu which is pretty good value and 3 courses is what you get. Nothing more! An amuse bouche or two would have been nice, or a pallet cleaner, could move this restaurant to a different level. A bit more work on the presentation and this would be a very good restaurant and some where worthy of note. But hey, they miss the mark on too many points and don't measure up to the better restaurants in the area. They are almost there but not the complete article.
