In the usual London fashion we got stuck in traffic and were 5 hours behind schedule so by the time we got to Minehead we were shattered. We rang a few hotels but they were either all booked up or none had any family rooms. Although they generally don't cater for children they were very accommodating and agreed to take us. The view out of the window was amazing. At night with the moon reflecting off the sea and the lights glistening into the hills. In the morning the sun was shining and you felt as if you were looking down from heaven. This is an old Edwardian building so it has lots of charm and original features mixed up with late seventies updates and an amazing array of antiques and pictures. The rooms are comfortable and the décor very bright. If you like minimalist and modern bathrooms you wont like it, but if you want character and don't mind putting up with probably some updating requirements in the bathroom you will love it. The hosts are charming. Nothing is too much trouble and they make you feel very welcome and at ease. Due to its location it is very peaceful and quiet. The only downside is that you are at the top of a hill so a car is a must unless you have good legs and lungs. The breakfast was spot on. Alex even took my two young children to collect the eggs for breakfast from the chickens. You cant get much fresher than that, and couldn't you tell when you ate them. If you want a relaxing time with no hassle, want to sit in the lounge or on the patio or even the balcony overlooking one of the best views in England then this is it. Alex will tend to your needs with a newspaper or a glass of wine and you can sit there and relax.
