“72 yr old relives "the good old days of steam"”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

What a way to relive some old memories of real live steam. The day started with the purchase of a day rover ticket and timetable to plan the day-my 72nd birthday ! We started by getting up close with the engine driver of a Great Western Halls Class 4-6-0 loco waiting to depart on the 10.15 to Bishops Lideard.Bang on time we chuffed out of MInehead along the coast ,the gradient means that the engine had some work to do ,the noise ,smell and power as I hung out of the window to listen was awesome-took me back 60 years! Many stops along the coast and superb scenery the route turns inland alongside the Quantocks to Bishops Lideard .An hours break here ,we went into the museum which houses a brilliant model railwayand before long time to return. This time we decided to take a brake at Watchet, the station right on the harbour which now has .a very attractive marina and sea wall .The day being a Wednesday there was a market on the esplanade and we enjoyed a couple of pints at an ajacent CAMRA real ale pub. After a couple of hours we got the next steam train back ,this time a GWR Manor Class loco back to Minehead and finished the day with fish and chips on the sea front.Old or young a brilliant value for money day out.10 out of 10 for the West Somerset Railway and all the staff-my best birthday in seventy two years!

“West Somerset Railway - Fabulous.”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

We recently had a wonderful trip on the West Somerset Railway the service by all members of staff could not have been better, as I am disabled and needed to use the ramp to get my wheelchair on board nothing was too much trouble. The carriages were immaculate and clean which is often not the case with Heritage railways as attention seems to focus on the engine, every member of staff from the ticket office, guard, buffet staff had a friendly manner which made the trip very pleasant. Well done West Somerset Railway you are a shining example....

“Steaming up the rankings”
Reviewed 30 May 2014

By far the best Heritage Railway I have been to.
Shame some trains don't run to time, but given how old the machines are that is negligible.
Have been to a couple of 'Galas' and the Awesome Dunster by Candlelight is a novel and annual event in out family.

I recommend a visit to anyone!

“As always amazing, you must go!”
Reviewed 29 May 2014 via mobile

Again, the WSR failed to disappoint this time on the yellow timetable with seven trains in each direction.

We stopped off at washford, bought a museum ticket (only £2 an adult and £1 a child!) this was amazing, being able to cross the track and get up close to some really old trains, and to go into 5 trucks with displays in was amazing!

We also stopped off at the harbour town of watchet, this is such slovenly place for the whole family!

Everything about the railway is amazing. There's some people that all they have to say is that the carriages have a bit of dirt on, when they always have and that's steam trains! it's amazing how well preserved they are !!!

A 100% yes if your thinking of going !!!!

“Fabulous day out with the kids”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

We really enjoyed our day out on the West Somerset Railway. We got on the steam train to Dunster and had a great time there. Another time we will visit Dunster Castle as I hear it's very good.
The train was very clean and tidy and the staff were friendly.
The children (4 and 6) really enjoyed seeing the steam and this was the highlight of their holiday.
It's obvious that much time and attention has been spent on the beautifully maintained railway stations. the station gardens are lovely as you pull into the stations.
