“Family Fun”
Reviewed 24 August 2012

Just returned home from Butlins, minehead and had a fantastic holiday. We stayed in silver accomadation which was clean and modern and dined in the "premium" Quayside resturant. The daytime entertainment is brilliant and although it rained all day everyday on our hoilday my 6 year old daughter and I had a brilliant holiday together. If your not a "kiddie" person your not going to like Butlins in the middle of august (try an adults only weekend, they are a real riot). The Redcoats are amazing, the skyline gang are energentic and always enthusiastic. The night time shows are fab - we saw Jessie J and geroge micheal (impersonators) who where great (Jessie J u rocked!!!) the columbian circus thrilled us both and the panto in centre stage was really magical. Had no complaints at all. Staff are all helpful and friendly, even the cleaners and others behind the scenes and the whole place is so clean, safe and tidy. Thumbs up Butlins!!

Room Tip: When u arrive always check at guest services for upgrades, last year we got upgraded to gold for £30...

we had a day pass that cost £48 and then the parking was £3.50, when we got into the resort there was an extra cost to go onto most of amusements, the only things that didn't cost was a small fairground and the swimming pool in which we didn't even get into because of the tremendous queue, there was a few things to do but we didn't want to spend even more money, there was also a pass for over £10 to get a discount but on top of the entrance fee we didn't feel like paying that. it was crowed and full of smoke and although some staff where nice and friendly whilst others where not so nice and quite moody... wouldn't recommend a day pass at all, do not know about longer terms and saving money but a let-down after a lovely break.

A very lovely stay at Butlins Minehead. The accommodation was spotless and the house keepers where friendly and happy to help. Would recommend this resort, it is set in beautiful countryside and is a family friendly resort with family friendly beach.

It would be nice if the whole park was smoke free. As a non smoker it has hard to find a place to sit outside without being surrounded by people who smoked.
Another improvement I would like to see is for the swimming pool to be open longer. After a day out visiting the beautiful countryside it would be nice to pop to the pool and unwind with a swim.

Swimming pool main attraction. The superbowl scariest thing ever haha. They had a big inflatable assault course.
Lots of nice restaurants but tbh i dont think alot of people go to any of them. Most people get the standard food plan
which is good its basically a food court with different stalls with pub food basically aha :L you can get hot chocolates to etc.
They dont actually even ask for your room number or anything so yeah, they wouldnt notice if you didnt even have a plan.

Entertainment? there was a small funfair that i went on like one ride? theres shows on everyday which are all quite bad :L
tribute singers ? wrestling which used to be good, but its got worse. um most of the shows are in 'reds' or 'the main stage' .

The room we stayed in 2 bedrooms basic? didnt have a living room or kitchen but if your not cooking its fine aha.

Basically just go to the swimming pool, maybe golf, aw archery is on everyday?, dinner.... if your going for 7 days its depressing.

Good cheap holiday for kids :L

im15~

Room Tip: Want to save even more money? dont get a food plan. they dont notice if you just walk in lol

We have never been happy to come home from a short break. Then we visited Butlins at Minehead!! Oh what a shame to have to write a bad review as we were so looking forward to it. I booked on the phone and was assured that we had one of the refurbished accomodations which had a balcony. I explained that because of a back condition I would be unable to climb many stairs and again I was assured that it would not be a problem. Upon arrival we were horrified to find out that our accomodation was not only in one of the old buildings, but we were on the 3rd floor, a climb of 4 flights of very old and rusty outside stairs! It was like a prison block. Convinced this was an error that could be rectified we went back to the check in. Again how wrong could we be! We were told they were the same as the refurbished accomodation, er no have you looked at them!! I was told by the receptionist just to stay out all day so as not to have to go inside or up the stairs which was a nightmare for my back ( not sure the word empathy is one he has heard of). Cherry on the cake? a lunatic neighbour who couldn't speak without shouting or swearing. Visions of 'The Shining' immediately sprang to mind!! Jeremy Kyle would have a field day!! Was hoping to show our girls a fun holiday from our childhoods but instead they were subjected to bad language and bad manners. On a brighter note the swimming pool was great fun and the beach across the road is lovely. Butlins is just not our cup of tea.

Room Tip: Make sure you stay in the Elderberry appartments if accomodation is important to you.

I was dreading going to Butlins Minehead after reading some of the reviews but was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of our Silver apartment, the facilities, well maintained grounds and the food quality in the dining hall.
Butlins is a childs paradise with lots to keep them entertained! The beach is across the road and Minehead village is a short walk away.
We enjoyed our stay [myself age 63,daughter age 43, and grandaughter age 15] After finding out what was on offer with the VIP club for teenagers the grandaughter quickly made lots of friends and was kept occupied the whole of our stay.
The only negative on our stay was that we paid an extra £6.50 per person a day for premium dining which was supposed to give you extra choice of food fom the wok station serving pancakes, omelettes and stir frys, there was allways such a queue that we never managed to get anything off there. Also for the extra money we were supposed to be escorted to our table and have our order taken for drinks! This didn,t happen,we were told to sit wherever we liked[ which was a trial in itself at busy times as there didn,t seem to be enough staff to clear the tables] and we never had anyone come for our drinks order we had to go to the bar ourselves.
So unless you can;t live without stirfries, pancakes and omelettes that you have to queue for save your £6.50 a day per person for something else.
We were unfortunate to be in a second floor apartment and had noisy neighbours above us which is why I have rated sleep quality not too good but beds etc were fine!
So if you have children give it a try they'll love it!

Room Tip: If you don't mind stairs go for a top floor apartment, you won't have noise from above.

We paid a lot of money for the gold accomodation , but it was very dated and very very small !
We had a cot in the twin but then the door wouldnt close
Bathroom tiny
Initially we thought we had been put in the basic accomodation !
My 6 year old loved all the entertainment but it felt very rushed and manic going to everything
Definitely prefer centre parcs ! - my daughter probably would prefer butlins though !

Room Tip: Book the best you can afford
