“Generous, friendly and charming”

The pub is on the main A39 a few miles out of Minehead. Residents can park in the car park on the same side as the pub. The car park opposite is not a problem if you walk 50 yards down the road and enter through the beer garden. The garden is nicely landscaped with patio area and a small adventure play area. Pleasant and not at all tacky. The place is under new management 6 months in and it is obvious that the new proprietors are making a real effort. The food portions are generous and the toiletries in the room are too. The place is very clean and well kept. I can only see this improving further as the landlord beds in further. My room was simple but comfortable with a decent sized bathroom. The road only a minor irritation. It was hot so I had the window open, but the traffic was not heavy. For £35 with a very generous full English breakfast, excellent value. Pop down to Dunster, just down the road and see if you can get a room for under £100 PP. The are some lovely walks through the village and up into the hills. Dunster through the deer park is just over a mile way. The pub its self is 1600'S and though at first glance the from the outside you could easily pass it by as late Victorian, however internally its a real gem. When I stayed there was a really nice feel to the atmosphere with plenty of local using the pub, a sign of a good pub. All in all, good service, nice staff and value for money. I wouldn't hesitate in staying again.

Lovely place to stay, stayed one night but it was a delight. Room was a good size and very clean with tea/coffee making facilities. The food at the pub was nice. It's about 500 years, and the staff are so lovely and helpful. I had the room that you had to walk through the bathroom to get to the room, I found the carpet in good condition, and although bit funny to walk through a bathroom when you unlock the door...it was part of the charm of a 500 year old pub. You do have to mind your step getting from the carpark to the rooms when you go down the steps, and it is set on a busy road on a bend....but it was a lovely place.

Room Tip: Any room is good; it's a delightful place to stay with all the charms of a 500 year old pub.

I understand that at the time of our visit this pub was under new management, so maybe it is a work in progress and things will improve soon; the younger members of staff were certainly as helpful and pleasant as they could be. However, The Butcher's Arms is set beside a busy road , close to a bend which make access to either of the two car parks rather perilous. Access to three of the four letting rooms is via uneven and broken outside steps: there is no access to any from inside the pub. One of the rooms is entered through the bathroom, complete with grubby carpet. The front rooms were noisy due to traffic noise.
If we had been booked in on our own we would not have stayed, there are far better choices in the area.
