Stayed at Wanneroo Farm for a couple of days at the end of August. The setting was lovely, but slightly disappointed with the accommodation. Didn't expert that there would be no en-suite, and we would have to share a bathroom. We had our son with us who was 10 months old at the time. No real facility for babies, as we brought our own travel cot. That said, the breakfast was great and the hosts were friendly.

Having fallen in love with the beautiful pictures on the website and having a husband who loves horses, I decided that this would be an ideal base for our weekend away.

I was not disappointed! We arrived in the dark on a cool November evening to a warm welcome from Lucie and her daughter Georgina and had to wait for daylight on Saturday to see what lay outside. The views were every bit as beautiful as pictured and the peacefulness was wonderful. Being an unseasonably warm sunny day, we couldn't wait to get outside and explore after our delicious cooked breakfasts. We had a short walk across some nearby fields before heading out in the car for more walking!

Dinner in the local pub, The Lion at Timberscombe , was delicious and good value. A typical local pub atmosphere!

This is a great base for exploring the local area and we will definitely return and take our girls with us next time to see the horses and ponies.

What a fantastic few days we had here. The views were fantastic and there were plenty of things to do. Perfect for finding a quiet spot and getting lost in a novel or galloping along the common on the horses.

Lucy and her family were very welcoming, all the animals keep you entertained, each with their own personality. We can't wait to come back with our horses next year to try the rides we missed this time.

We received a wonderful warm welcome from Lucie the owner and were shown to our room which was light and comfortable. We looked out over grazing horses (all shapes and sizes), free roaming chickens and a pretty river. Dinner that night was taken at the local pub - good value for money and lots of local atmosphere. The next morning we had a wonderful home cooked breakfast and then left for the moor. We spent the day enjoying the beautiful scenery on a walk that Lucie had recommended. Wish we had had more than a couple of days there but will be back soon. See you soon Wanneroo!

This fabulous farm, set in the heart of Exmoor National Park is run by accomplished show jump rider, Lucie Allison and her golf professional husband Ian (ably assisted by junior jumper, daughter Georgina).

Lucie is the ultimate host.

The farm offers livery for riders who wish to bring their own horses and special en-suite accommodation for those who wish to bring their dogs.

That's what Exmoor is all about:- horses, dogs, wild game and wildlife in particular!

It is a paradise for animal lovers like ourselves. We took our two dogs and they were in heaven for awhile.

A typically and traditionally English part of the country, Exmoor epitomizes an ancient English county; customs and pastimes are those passed down from thousands of years. Do not expect anything less!

The breakfasts are enormously satisfying and home cooked: fresh, free-range fare from the farm!

The only problem you are likely to experience is one of trying to choose from an unbelievable range of activities in the beautiful Somerset countryside.

Most of the trains are steam driven!!

Expect to stay for a couple of days and you may well be there for weeks.

Believe me, I don't do this sort of thing very often, but Waneroo Farm is worth it! Here's the link:-

What a lovely couple of days we had, the atmosphere was so friendly and relaxed even though it was busy with the animals.
The daffodils were in full bloom, the sea or the moor were nearby. We hope to visit again soon.
