I've been to this hotel twice, once for a conference in October and this time as a hotel guest.

Both times it was easy to get to and locate as it is just off the M1. Plenty of parking, reception areas are nice and welcoming.

Conference rooms were large and accomodating but the facilties were variable, the projector didn't work, coffee was not served very efficiently, by the time the last people managed to get to the table, there were no cups left and or tea bags. The location for lunch was confused with another conference that was being held. The food at lunch was not of fantastic quality, however I do not know what package was booked and for how many by our head office. On a positive note, most issues were dealt with reasonable promptness.

My stay as a hotel guest was pleasant and comfortable. Not the most modern of rooms but they were clean, room service was prompt and dinner and breakfast food were ok. The TVs are quite old with a limited selection of channels (no freeview). I managed to get a lot of work done and had a good nights sleep.

It is not a luxurious hotel but good if you need a relax and a bed for the night! I'd be happy tostay there again.

Efficient check-in, plenty of parking, comfy bed, clean. Breakfast seemed rather pricey so I found a (very good) cafe in Redbourn village instead. A good overnight kind of hotel, I'd say.

I stayed for three nights, taking an executive double and a standard twin room for our teenage children. As I have a Holiday Inn loyalty card, and the hotel currently seems to be on a brilliant rate for spending points, I was able to stay for free, only paying for breakfast. Even at the standard rates for the same nights, I thought the hotel was very good value for money.

We were warmly welcomed after a six hour drive with the room cards pre-cut, the registration form pre-printed, a welcome letter from the General Manager, and directed to our rooms within seconds of arriving at the front desk. All I had to do was check and sign the registration card and return it to reception later that evening. Because they had my credit card number from the online booking, I didn't even have to produce that. I thought this was simple and brilliant customer service.

The rooms were very good in different ways. The twin room was huge, though the decor was starting to need attention in some areas, e.g. the wallpaper was turning up at the corner in several places. The shower wasn't working, but as we forgot to report it to reception, we don't know how quickly it may have been fixed.

The executive double room was freshly decorated, and of a decent size, but the bathroom was very small. The bath-seal was mouldy in the corner and in need of replacement .

So a couple of minor issues, but they weren't significant enough to spoil the experience.

The beds (Hypnos) and pillows in both rooms were new and very comfortable. The bed in the double room was of the "two singles zipped together" type - not to everyone's taste, but it does give a big bed! The rooms and bathrooms felt and looked clean, and the towels were of a good size.

We booked breakfast in advance (£15 for two, rather than a turn-up rate of, I think, £13.50 each). If you're booking the advance room rate online, it's only £10 for two to include breakfast. Breakfast itself was very good, with a good choice. On the Monday morning the hotel was quiet and the cooked breakfast was made to order and faultless. Tuesday and Wednesday saw the usual help-yourself hot and cold buffet. The breakfast staff looked like they had been loyal employees for many, many years, and it gave the feeling of a much more homely affair rather than the usual big-chain presentation.

The public areas, corridors and restaurant decor wasn't the height of fashion or in perfect, just decorated, condition, but I wouldn't describe it as 'tatty' as has been said by previous reviewers. The reception desk and outside signage have all been updated with the new Holiday Inn branding.

Unfortunately we didn't have the opportunity to visit the pool or gym, though I note from their website that it is closed for a couple of days at the end of October 2010. Perhaps this is for refurbishment.

The hotel is brilliantly located, less than two minutes from J8 of the M1and just a short trip from Luton Airport. Although directly on the A5, and nearly under the Luton flight path, we didn't have any issues with having the window open at night in our room that faced the side of the hotel.

Checkout was friendly and straightforward.

I've stayed in the Premier Inn along the road from this hotel. If you're budget conscious and the price is right, then consider it. For my stay, even without points, the Holiday Inn was cheaper and better. I'll be staying here again next week.

This is the second time I have stayed here. Had an executive room which was well furnished and comfortable. Free parking. Good buffet breakfast with items being constantly replenished. Staff attitude and helpfulness outstanding.

Start with postive the staff were ok and freindly , but couldnt do anything to make up for the tired looking decor. In the end me and my partner were having a competion who found most cobwebs. I know bed are persoanl preference I.e hard or soft but love to find someone who liked this bed. Thje toliets always messy, and uncleaned.
Couldnt get TV to work, reception told me "guest always have problems" . hire a painter to touch up the walls etc . it make a difference,.

Not a good start to the holiday , thank good the hotel abroad was better and cleaner!!!
