The first point of contact is crucial to any business and whilst those that have stayed at this Bed and Breakfast have praised it. It really is quite extraordinary in the fact that i cannot even attempt to set foot in the door. Repeated calls this week at varying times to make a booking have been met by a disinterested answermachine message with a request that you leave your name and number " and we will call you back " - The calls never came.

For that i can only give the Bed and Breakfast the lowest possible score.

We stay in Harpenden to visit family and catch the train into London. We've stayed with Kate 4 times this year and can't believe what you get at an incredible price. Kate is welcoming, the rooms are comfortable and nicely decorated and the location is rural and unexpectedly quiet. The best.

A really lovely contemporary B and B -our rooms were in the converted stable block away from the main farmhouse-and there is great attention to detail. The only downside was the noise from the road and railway line, but I am a very light sleeper. The breakfast served in the main house was a very good standard .

Room Tip: Make the owner aware if you are vegetarian as the breakfast choices are limited if you are!

We stayed at Hyde Mill B&B for three nights in April 2011. I found the B&B on the Farm Stay website as we love staying in B&B’s in the countryside that are close to transport links yet secluded. Hyde Mill was no exception and at a 4 star establishment had everything one needed.

Hyde Mill is situated off a b road with a drive over a small bridge that spans a stream. The area is very picturesque and boasts a few grazing horses too. The room we stayed in was in a renovated stables block with about 6-8 little rooms in a courtyard where one could park the car safely.

On arrival after our 4 hour drive down from Liverpool and a stop off at Hamerton Zoo Park in Cambridgeshire, we were met at the door by Katie. Katie was a much younger proprietor than we have had previously and happily left us to our own devices during our stay.

Katie showed us to our room, number two, which was modern, lovely and clean with a wet room and under floor heating. She told us when breakfast would be and bid us a nice evening. There were coffee and tea making facilities in the room with a flask of fresh milk topped up every day which was a nice touch as the UHT milk is vile!

The double bed was lovely and comfy and the linen was clean and fresh, there were lots of storage in the room for clothes and the room had a nice flat screen TV. The bathroom had lovely clean white towels and the room was controlled by a thermostat on the wall which you could control yourself.

Hyde Mill is centrally located for tourist spots in the Luton, greater London area. Only 30 minutes drive to Woburn Safari Park and Whipsnade Zoo and 25 minutes drive to Luton and Stevenage for eating out, we did not go hungry and with the B&B’s wonderful fast broadband internet free to guests, we could always look up Google-maps and see where places where.

Breakfast was in a clean, bright dinning room in the main house across the way from the stables, there was a continental breakfast for myself of cereal and fresh yoghurt and fruit if needed. David and I don’t eat a cooked breakfast and Katie was gracious enough to offer us tea and coffee every morning with no hesitation.

We spent most of our days out sightseeing and returned to our room with our bed nicely tidied, Katie probably thought we were insane coming back from our daily jaunts at the local zoos with different cuddly animal toys, making the room look more like a menagerie. Every evening we would quietly enjoy a nice glass of bucks fizz and a warm shower in our spacious room which felt more like a home from home.

From reading the guest book we are not the only ones who thoroughly enjoyed our time away at Hyde Mill, and would highly recommend the establishment to anyone staying in the area as a lovely place to relax and recharge oneself.

I needed to stay in the Luton area for several months for work and can relaibly say this is the best accommodation within severla miles - I know as I tried lots! The other places (some on TA) looked variously promising, but were a big dispappointment.
Hyde Mill has beautifully converted accommodation and is fitted out with excellent quality furniture, linen etc. Very comfortable beds and delicious breakfasts add to this good news. Perhaps most of all, Katie is such a kind and generous host and will do whatever she can to make your stay comfortable and easy. I can't praise Hyde Mill enough - whether you are in the area for business or pleasure, it is simply unbeatable! I was so impressed that, having finished my work contract in the area, I came back to stay to attend training in central London (and will do so again when in the area)

Marevellous old mill which has been in the same family for more than a Century with stableyard units now tastefully convereted into lovely accomodation units. Lots of period detail, but with a modern feel. Oak beams, Farrow and Ball painted panelling with contemporary fabrics. Warm and welcoming with a superb breakfast in the main house - also great value. Could not find anything to fault, which is unusual for me. Handy for Luton airport or any of the surrounding Bedfordshire countryside. Many inns in the neighbourhood for evening meals - or Harpenden just five minutes away for larger choice of restaurants. Thank you for a comfortable stay.
