We stayed at the Carriage House last Friday evening as we were attending a wedding reception a couple of miles away and we were really impessed with the standard of the rooms and also the breakfast.

We were made to feel very welcome by our hosts Bev and Simon and the atmosphere in the bar was really friendly.

The rooms are quite spacious and look as though they have been recently renovated. The decor in both the bedroom and the bathroom was really tasteful and we had a great view over the moors from our window. We had a very comfortable and good nights sleep with no disturbances.

The breakfast did take a little time to be served because everything was freshly cooked and they do an excellent "full English" but took note of anything guests didn't want and everyone got what they ordered.

We didn't take our evening meal at the hotel but other friends that were staying did and reported that the food was really good.

If we are travelling into Yorkshire in the future we will certainly call in for a meal and would definitely stay there again if in the area.

Room Tip: This hotel is perfect for walkers, campers or people attending weddings/functions nearby but not sui...

We visited the carriage house on a Friday evening in July it wasn't especially busy, the food took over an hour to arrive. When it did finally arrive one of your mains was missing we asked the waitress where it was and she never came back to the table with an answer, we ended up venturing into the kitchen ourselves to see where our food was, to be told that particular dish has sold out! ( why we were not informed of this within our hour long wait is beyond me) !
Our whole meal was accompanied with the sound track of the dog behind the bar constantly barking! ( environmental health ALERT!)
The food was very average
We will not make the mistake of visiting this establishment again

Stayed here twice now , both times when we did the Pennine Way. This place justs get better. Bev and Simon are superb hosts and as previous reviews have mentioned , the evening food and breakfast are THE best on the Way. Rooms immaculate and Sky TV too. This is a must if staying at Marsden/Standedge!

Stayed here on our Pennine Way Walk in June 2013. Rooms were Impeccable, a real delight. The evening meal and breakfast in the conservatory were very very good. Nothing too much trouble for the owners. This place is a credit to them. Also washing and drying facilities for walkers. Well done.

Out in the sticks, way up on the moors, great walking country. Very welcoming owners, for whom nothing too much trouble. Nice rooms, well furnished, clean. Restaurant and bar food and breakfast all good, with wide variety, reasonable wine list and some good beers. Bev and Simon have done a great job over the years in building this business.
Only slight criticism was that the steak was way overcooked. Pity.

I stayed here because a friend was getting married nearby. They were very accommodating about early book in. The room was very well furnished, and very well lit. It was clean. It was quite noisy with doors banging, but that settled down about midnight. I only stayed there for about four hours, so I can't comment much on anything else...

The location was brilliant - in the middle of nowhere. Unfortunately that meant I didn't have vodafone reception, but you can't win everything.
Streetcars from Manchester, and Home James were very efficient taxis.
