Visited as part of a large party (pre-booked) and we were made very welcome with an intensive, (that is every 30 minutes rather than every 40 minutes) service in operation with all their operative locos in use (five steam, one diesel).A 3.5 mile run through delightful Yorkshire scenery, good weather and great views, Refreshments at both ends of the line but more extensive at Clayton West which also has a considerable parking area as well as play facilities for children and a shop. Atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and you are encouraged to wander and view all the attractions. On this NG line there are open and closed carriages but being small (ish) inside is "cosy". It was clearly also very popular with families.

Visited with our 4yr old and 20 month old. We played in the play area, went on the mini electric train, traveled on the large steam engine, played in the sand pit and had a cup of tea at the end of the track and then got the train back to the main station. All staff and volunteers were very helpful. Good time was had by all. Will visit again.

We (my wife, our 3 he old son, out 6 week old baby and myself) visited KLRW on recommendation of a friend.

It was so much better than we had expected.

Reasonably priced, the day rider tickets for the railway were great value for money. The journey up and down the line takes approx 25 mins each way, and it a relatively slow pace. My 3 year old loved going under the bridges and through the tunnels.

If you want food I'd make sure you grab it at the main cafe, and the one up the line is pretty limited.

We will certainly be going back and would highly recommend it.

Hi Gary

Thanks very much for taking the time to write a review of your visit to the railway.
We are so happy that the railway surpassed your expectations and that the entire family had a lovely day out! We do try our best to offer great value for our visitors and we constantly review our prices against similar attractions to make sure we're hitting the mark.

You are correct that our Tea Room at Shelley is more limited in the menu it offers and this is purely due to the restrictions of kitchen size. Plans are afoot to provide a larger offering at Shelley so please do keep your eyes peeled for updates.

We look forward to welcoming you all back very soon.

Best wishes, Erin @ KLR

A two hour driver experience was the catalyst for a great day out for all the family. From Grandad driving a train; through to Grandson playing with the train sets in the excellent cafe and all the family enjoying the atmosphere and countryside on a trip up the line.

The driving experience started with Harry, the instructor, going over all the rules and then the controls. From then on I was fully involved from driving the train, stoking the boiler to shunting the coaches. Harry was a mine of information about the line, its history through to getting the most out of the engine when balancing the controls. Wonderful Harry, thank you!

The cafe had a variety of food and drink to offer, much of which was home made and looked delicious. The cafe itself was absolutely spotless with a team cleaning everything at the start of our day.

Those of our party who travelled the full length of the line and especially our grandson loved every minute.

Great team at KLR and a wonderful day out. Thank you all.

We had a lovely day out. The attraction is reasonably priced. The train journey is just long enough for small people (25 minutes each way) and the all day ticket allows more than one trip. There are well equpped parks at each and a cafe at both ends too. On arrival we booked afternoon tea for after our return journey. The gentleman at the ticket office was really helpful. On our return to the cafe at Clayton West the table was set for the afternoon tea which was beautiful. The ladies serving tea were beyond helpful. The tea with extra crisps and a drink for our 2 boys (tea for 4 adults and 2 children) with unlimited tea and coffee was £36. Even the gift shop was reasonably priced. The boys adored the miniature railway which costs 50p a ride. It goes faster than I expected, which apparently is a good thing when you are two and four.

Hi Julie

We really appreciate you taking the time to write a review!

It sounds like you had a fun day out and that you made the most of your time with us, which is always a pleasure to hear.

We do like to pride ourselves on having super helpful staff and extremely delicious afternoon teas - and it seems we hit the mark during your visit.

We hope to see you again very soon and will make sure the battery is fully charged on the miniature train so your boys can have a good zip around the duck pond!

Best wishes, Erin @ KLR
