“very disappointing”
Reviewed 4 June 2010

Having been here for events before I was looking forward to a nice quiet break. To be fair, it was very quiet and the surrounding area is beautiful. This hotel is in serious need of a shake up. Although check out is at 11, I have just been invaded by housekeeping to clear my room and it is 9.05! Breakfast promised "hand made bread, cheese, cold meats, pastries, hand prepared fruits" none of which were available. If the squeezed juices hadnt come from a Tescos carton I will eat my hat! Toast came before cereal with one tiny carton of butter, and tomato sauce was miles away in a dish, you had to take to yr table then take back.so - breakfast was a non event. I had decided last night to eat in the hotel, and had pork in bacon, with a jacket potato and peas, four slices of a french stick with the obligatory one carton of butter and a glass of coke. The pear dessert was very nice, (see pics!) the rest was... satisfactory, the bill was £20!!!! There is a set meal, which includes a glass of wine, but as I dont drink wine and theres no alternative soft drink option (interesting as it is in the middle of nowhere so you have to drive to get there!) I had to pay for that on top. so in conclusion, the rooms were ok. ish. the food was ok. ish the location is spectacular. If I had spend the £100+ on the room that it was advertised on their own website, I would have been gutted. this is 2 star hotel with 4 star prices. As it is, will look elsewhere next time, a view eched by three other of the 13 guests in the whole hotel last night. Save this place quick before it sinks completely and gets turned into flats....!!!!! note to kitchen - dessert was fab, but, neverservet a dessert with a jug of cream on a flat slate... the cream goes all over the table!!!! aslo the spoon on slate sound is like nails down a blackboard... had to borrow a dish from the breakfast bar and decant onto that. was nicely presented though.

We arrived about 8.30pm where we were promptly checked in. First impression was of a typical Yorkshire hotel very quaint. Reception staff were courteous and helpful. We stayed in room 22 which was ok. We were travelling with our 12yr old and had asked for an extra bed. It turned out to be a campbed which was probably the only thing you could fit in the room but had to pay an extra £20 which I thought was too much. Room was adequate but very hot! Bed was uncomfortable. Bathroom was fine but shower was not! We had to wait 20mins in restaurant for a table as they were really busy. Again staff were very friendly. Food was tasty and well presented. They had an offer on 2 meals for £22 which was really good value and even included a glass of wine!
Hotel was clean and was really good value for £50(plus £20 for extra bed).
Hotel even has its own helipad!

We had a wonderful celebration thanks to a very attentive and helpful staff. Everyone was so welcoming and polite. It all helped to make it a very special occasion. The meal was excellent and we not not fault anything.

We recently had our civil ceremony and reception here and words cannot describe how fantastic the staff at the hotel made the event.

From the start the process of organising the wedding with the hotel was simple and easy, booking accomodation for ourselves and for the guests was straight forward and having access to a key contact who organises the event was an excellent service especially for any queries no matter how small. The hotel were also adaptable and more than accomodating to our requests!

Over 25 members of our family stayed at the hotel the night before the wedding, service for the evening meal was quite slow. However, consideration has to be given to the staff there as they do try their best to do their job. Other than this it was well worth the wait as the food was lovely (Breakfast is good too)!

On the actual day the hotel staff and the duty manager took over the organising, which was fantastic!! Taking the weight off the Bride's shoulders and letting her get on with getting ready!! The hotel staff and duty manager knew exactly what they were doing and having the duty manager taking over the organisation of the whole day and acting as the matradee was brilliant! They did a great job and made the day run smoothly and to plan, I don't think the day & evening would have gone as well without them.

Negative comments on other reviews about the reception I find petty, they are so helpful and tend to your every need. Those without a sense of humour or take everything so seriously and who misinterpret others personalities - need to give themselves a good shake!! Also some of the other negative comments on the reviews for this hotel I find absolutley ridiculous and I am baffled that people complain about things that aren't even worth complaining or even thinking about!!

Budget wise the wedding costs were very reasonable, I won't say too much about it being quite cheap as they might put the prices up! The room rates are also very good. The rooms are quite small, however homely, well decorated and maintained and done up beautifully. The free car parking facilities is also a major bonus.

A fantastic venue for whatever your reason, however in terms of weddings it was better than I could ever imagine and I am not one who would say such things lightly.

A big thank you to Pennine Manor for making our wedding a great day!

We were given a list of local hotels to check out for our two night stay in this beautiful area.
On arrival at the Pennine Manor we were first greeted by breathtaking views of the surrounding area. The hotel had that "Emmerdale" look and feel about it.
The receptionist we found to be helpful and accomodating.
The rooms were clean and bright with lovely views of the surrounding areas.
Although were didn't have any evening meals in the hotel, we did have breakfast each morning, which were lovely.
Overall I found the hotel to be quiet, clean and a place that I would go back to!

Stayed here just the one night, like a previous comment the greeting when you arrived does not exist the receptionist good not be bothered to say hello and when she did greet us it was not friendly not a good start, the hotel is fine the room we had was nice and clean and spacious with partial views over the Pennines, the meal we had in the evening was very nice they had an offer on 3 courses for £11 the normal menu was very pricey so it was a good they had the offer on. Breakfast was excellent the waiter was lovely and could not do enough for you, the choice was excellent and the food very good. We would recommend a stay here just ignore the receptionist and you will be ok.

Too expensive if your a family, £20 extra per bed per night. we have a 2 year old and a 3 year old. there was nothing for them to do whilst we were in the hotel. Prices at the bar for drinks were very OTT do not by shorts or you will have no money left. £3 per pint. Staff on reception are not very friendly instead of making you have a happy stay and want to return they are just thinking about money in their pocket at the end of the day. We were attending a wedding and stayed the night before as check in wasnt till 2pm, we had dinner included the night before we sat down at 8pm and when you have children the waiting time between each course wasnt necessary. we finished dinner at 10.45pm so you can imagine how the babies were. Slow just isnt the word. i may stay again but not with children, but then im not going to be going that way i doubt........
