Tried to book for last Saturday, but the restaurant was fully booked, so decided to try for Wednesday evening instead. We thought that because there is a special two courses for £12 offer that night we would be unlucky again, but in fact there were only four other tables occupied. Very surprised to find that the £12 menu didn't include pasta or pizza as you might expect, but instead featured steak and fish - great value. Even cheaper is their offer of pizza or pasta for just £5 on Tuesday evenings - cheaper than many takeaways. It's also great value for families - children under 8 can eat free until 7.30pm every evening.
We ate from the a la carte menu, and even with two courses each, a glass of house wine, water and coffees the bill was under £35. We even received a discount voucher for £10 off a meal if we return within a month. Service was friendly and efficient, and we particularly liked the fact that tables were well spaced out. Tables had glass tops over burgundy tablecloths, which matched the colour of the walls, and the chairs were high-backed cream leather - a step above most restaurants at this price level.
Have we had better food? Yes, but not at this price - and that is in no way a criticism. Both courses were of a generous size and really tasty. Our only criticism was that the restaurant was a little lacking in atmosphere the night we went, but that was down to the lack of people - I'm sure it really buzzes at the weekends.
