Description: The Sovereign in Shepley is a country pub & restaurant oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

We used to visit this pub years ago in the 1980, we have had a meal there a few years ago it was dark we could not read the menu. This time our visit was great the food was very good friendly helpful staff, great choice on the menu we had the lunch time menu 3 courses great value for money I had Scampi the only thing I would fault was the tartar sauce no taste to it just like mayonnaise. I would have a meals there again very pleasant lovely decor great ambience very nice.

We arrived at this restaurant not expecting great things, we were shown to our table for four immediately by a very pleasant young man our table had the time of our booking and our name on. Very professional waiters, well trained. We didnt have to wait too long for the food, try the warm bread, what a feast, We opted for the roast beef, very good and such good value for money. we werent rushed and the place was very full. All in all a lovely experience and we will be going back soon.

We arrived on a Tuesday evening around 7.45pm. We had to wait to be shown a seat to our table. After 10 minutes we asked to order our food. After 40 minutes we asked where our food was. It had not been ordered. By this time we were past eating after a tiring day. The girl that served us, as were all the staff, was pleasant and tried to put things right by offering us a complimentary meal. We told her we were pasting eating and left. She went to try to find the guy that had taken our order. We hung around for a few minutes but no-one came.
Lovely warm, welcoming surroundings. A very poor experience.

Had a lunch and couldn't be disappointed in any way. Highly recommend the wild boar and chorizo burger, brilliant.
Foot was quick and efficient, no delays, hit and tasty.
Service equally as good, friendly and attentive. As I say, worth a visit.

We visited The Sovereign after the recent refurbishment and with a 20% discount voucher. We had thought that they may have upped their game since the last time we visited. The welcome was good and we were quickly shown to a table.
I chose the James Martin beef and merlot pie. It came with seasoned chips and cabbage. The cabbage was dry and unappetizing. The chips were soggy and not very spicy. I'm glad I didn't fork out the extra £1.00 for 'gourmet chips'The pie,"Created by James Martin", was in a large dish with a puff pastry crust. This covered a dish that was not even half filled. The filling contained 5 small pieces of meat and lots of onions (shallots). Not impressed.
My wife chose a fish dish of the day , Turbot and ravioli. What a disaster. The fish was no more that 2.5 in square and no more that 1/4 in thick. It was burnt on the skin side which was not crisp. It smelled and was bitter to the taste. All signs that this was certainly not fresh. The ravioli were dry and chewy. Most of this dish was left.
At no stage were we asked if we were happy about the meal.Strange in the era of customer satisfaction?!?
I would not go back again and I would not recommend this inn to anyone else.
