My husband and I arrived at the Premier Inn at midnight, exhausted after a long day of travel. All we wanted was to check in for our two-night stay, get our key, and collapse into bed. Unfortunately, a trio of other people had apparently checked in just before us and they were hungry. The desk clerk gave them the front desk phone and assisted them in calling for pizza, including giving detailed directions (more than once) for the delivery person. This was after they prevaricated for several long minutes about how many pizzas they wanted and what they wanted on them. Needless to say, we weren't amused.

Our room was off the upstairs hallway, which absolutely reeked of smoke, despite the fact that as of July, English hotels are supposed to be non-smoking. Our room also smelled of smoke, and I actually woke up in the middle of the night after dreaming that I was smoking because of the strong smell of tobacco, probably through the closed and locked connecting door.

The room itself appeared clean and despite the major motorway outside, the double windows were effective in cutting noise. We would have liked an electrical outlet near the head of the bed and for some brighter lights in the room. The bed was comfortable and the room size was what we expected for the money.

We didn't consider moving to another hotel because it was convenient to the home of the friends we were visiting and because we spent very little time at the hotel. Nonetheless, we were very happy to check out.

I stayed at the Premier Travel Inn Huddersfield West on business for one night, and it was exactly as I expected. Friendly check in, large room, superking bed, adequate bathroom, TV and the bonus of a telephone.
The few negative points were that a coaster on the superking bed had broken and the bed slanted, the TV remote control did not work and the toilet did not appear stable, however, this did not detract from the stay. I did mention these point to the reception on checking out and they said they would look into them.
The hotel is next to the M62 and there is some road noise, but the double glazed windows did block out the noise. For those light sleepers I would recommend a room at the front of the hotel, which is the opposite side to the motorway.
Prior to booking I was informed the pub next door (The Nags Head) was closed for refurbishment (due to open October 2007), but there is a Toby Cavery (Ainley Top), about 500 metres away which was more than an adequate replacement.
Overall, a pleasant stay. I would have no hesitation in staying there again, or recommending for for a short stay.
