I accommodated a friend at The Edge during his visit to Huddersfield and went to have a look myself. The owner, John, was incredibly friendly and generous and, even though I was just having a look, I was treated to complimentary fruit, tea and breakfast the next day. I was really impressed with the beautiful view and the very English style furniture. I've been living abroad so it was incredibly nostalgic. It's in a quiet area, away from the town centre, which is another advantage. I would definitely accommodate another friend there or even stay there myself if I fall out with my parents on a future stay at home!

Wow !

if you have a bucket list of the best places to stay before you fall off your perch and this place is not on it, re-write your list
If you have another list of places that are value for money and this place is not on it, you've fallen off your perch

Location - You can stand on the veranda and survey all before you, the Victorian mill in the valley with the rows of workers' houses, like regimental lines of soldiers, set against a beautiful background. Then and only then do you realise that you won first prize in the lottery of life, being born under the flag of St Gorge / Andrew / David / & Greavsie (delete as appropriate)

Road – carpet bombing meets lunar landscape. One leave the gentle rolling roads of the surrounding hills, to the track that disintegrates into gravel, to divots, small holes, large holes, enormous holes & craters of all shapes and sizes. You may even need a lifejacket on a wet day !!

Accommodation – strange meets mind-altering drugs meets décor of a bygone age meets décor of a bad dream meets a good hangover

Bathroom – I have slept in smaller hotel rooms. The tree in the corner is hardly noticeable as it is so far away. The bath is a proper bath, big, bold, just like a bath should be. One has to climb up onto the toilet to survey all in the bathroom an strain ever sinew….probably enough about that.

Breakfast – a feast and a challenge for the defibrillator !! Melon and juice just to clean the palate and oil the throat !. Whisky marmalade to remind you it is 24 hour drinking.

Hospitality – brilliant. John goes out of his way to make you feel at home. The scone is such a nice welcome treat after a long day’s work, as is his selection of booze.

I have already booked my next stay and heartily recommend it to anyone who is fed up of the usual B & B hotel, who wants value for money, a fabulous view and a real place to relax and put the world to rights.

Visiting Huddersfield for a couple of days on family business and was drawn by the proximity of The Edge to my old school.
The Edge sits high at the top of a former quarry and is approached via an unmade road which needs to be driven slowly; which hopefully Kirklees Council will shortly repair. As the single storey building comes into view it is obvious that this is not your "normal" accommodation as it closely resembles the former smallholding which once stood here.
The interior is a reflection of the owner and as other reviewers have said it is unique and quirky but it is warm and comfortable and far from the "you could be anywhere" chain rooms.
The host John, is certainly a character, loves the area, his home and goes out of his way throughout your stay to ensure all is well and that you enjoy "The Edge Experience".
Breakfasts are great and whilst fresh melon was fine for me an absence of cereals might be an issue for some.
Overall a unique place to stay with a genuine and helpful host for whom guest satisfaction is a high priority.

Will I be back? The Edge will be my first choice when needing accommodation in the Huddersfield area.

I had a four night stay here & whilst a few niggles as coffee/tea facilities in room & turndown, draught from window they really do pail compared to the owners unique hospitality & location. Quiet & peaceful & dog walks galore. Good Location for Motorway networks & good value for money. John the owner greets with cream scones & you feel you're home from home.
