Drinks were expensive. Food was fabulous, large servings, very tasty. Good service, friendly staff. Would recommend as a group meal rather than a romantic evening.

I haven't been to Gringos for a while but glad to see that great places stay the same. The menu is simple but tasty. I went with 6 friends - 3 of whom didn't want a starter. We decided upon a sharing platter of nachos with pulled pork. Easily shared between us there was plenty to go rind, and at £7.50 it was a bargain. 4 of us opted for the fahjitas and 2 had the burritos - massive portions and superbly cooked. The prices are so reasonable and the alcoholic drinks well priced too. The seating is snug but I personally feel it adds to the atmosphere and don't mind the layout. The early bird menu is fantastic value too, as dishes are on a 241 offer.

Things didn't start very well for us here on Friday. We had a table booked at 6.30pm but the 2 for 1 offer is clearly bringing the punters in because the place was packed. We ended up having to wait for 15 minutes in reception, without being offered a drink and with three restless and hungry children.

When we were seated, the meal started off quite well and we shared some very tasty nachos and ribs. But the service was really stretched and, whilst we didn't have to wait too long for the food, it was hard work attracting attention for drinks, serviettes etc. We resorted to walking to the bar just to get things.

The main courses weren't that great. Between five we had beef and chicken fajitas which tasted hugely underspiced to me, and the beef was a very cheap cut, tough as old boots. The enchilada and burritos were no better than OK and again the beef was tough. The guacamole on the side was delicious, the savoury rice which came with one dish was poor.

Overall, this was one of those meals which started well and tailed off. Clearly we had picked peak time as a lot of people are obviously taking advantage of the 2 for 1, and this affected the service. The food could have been a whole lot better and it's telling that of all the dishes we had, the only thing which had any spice whatsoever was the hot sauce on the table. Maybe they are doing it for the English palate, and I appreciate it is tex mex rather than Mexican, but there really should be more chilli in the cooking. If I go again, and I wouldn't rule it out because the starters were nice and the price pretty good, I'll be insisting on more spice.

Weeknight meal for 1 & wasn't disappointed, food was very tasty and reasonably priced, the risotto special was particularly good and excellently seasoned, all courses were nicely presented.

Staff were attentive and prompt, my only gripe was a lack of non-alcoholic beer.
