“Excellent small hotel.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2012

Stayed on a Friday evening prior to chunnelling to France on Saturday morning, we had a room named 'Park' on 2nd floor. Lovely bedroom and shower room, spotlessly clean. Had everything we needed for a comfortable stay - toiletries, hairdryer, tea and coffee facilities. Yvonna on reception was extremely helpful and very welcoming. Really nice touches, such as cakes and wine that are just there for you if you want them.

Was really quiet and we got an excellent night's sleep. Had arrived in the dark so awoke to the pleasant surprise of a lovely view from our bedroom windows. Breakfast was knockout with a great cooked breakfast for my boyfriend and an omelette, cooked to perfection, for me.

Would definitely return. Thank you.

This is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in for quite some time. We were very well looked after. The room was lovely and the atmosphere and food superb. I would recommend this hotel for business and pleasure.

My husband (who works in high end tourism promotions) and I generally stay in 5 star establishments for business and pleasure and admittedly have very high expectations. Service at The Relish we found from our arrival to leaving was excellent and attentive from all the staff even in the absence of the proprietor. We asked for extra, firmer pillows as ours were rather tired and these were promptly delivered to our room. Fabulous cooked breakfast, all of the highest quality including the homemade white /brown bread. However we feel a greater selection of non cooked items such as a berry or fresh fruit compote, home made granola, home made preserves and cafetieres of coffee (with cups and saucers!) would have provided that excellent standard throughout. Good quality large towels changed after 2 days were provided and free wi-fi was appreciated. Our room on the top floor was spacious but pricey we felt for the money and the beds that were two put together should merit a duvet large enough to hang over the sides of the bed. This and the poor pillows on our first night marred sleep for my husband. However all in all an excellent establishment which provided a welcoming, relaxing stay that we would recommend and gladly visit again.

I suggested this hotel as a good option to stay for a short weekend break in the Dover area, and my partner surprised me by booking the orchid room. I have to say the room was quirky, I liked the 4 poster bed in the middle of the room, the 'Avena' toiletry touches, and the nice bathroom. It was lovely to have the coffee machine, juices and water bottles handy and 'complimentary', together with some beautiful cup cakes...
We were lucky enough to have a beautiful sunny morning when we woke up, and the view over the green was excellent. We had a rather pleasant breakfast - although I would not say it was amazing - sitting outside.
In the morning they helped us find a booking for a late lunch on a very busy day, which was much appreciated. Unfortunately, their suggestion turned out to be a disappointment and resulted in food poisoning, but that is not necessarily the hotel's fault, albeit I would ask them to remove the Hythe Bay Seafood Restaurant from their list of recommendations to their guests from now on!!!
Thank you very much for a lovely stay.

Room Tip: The Orchid room has an excellent view in the morning!!

So the choice was to stay a night at a faceless, corporate Premier Inn or the like or choose a slightly more expensive small B&B with a far more personal touch.

No contest, The Relish is a 10 bedroom hidden gem with friendly, attentive accommodating staff.

The rooms are very clean, nicely decorated perhaps a little small (but that's probably being a bit too critical).

Complimentary glass of wine / beer / cakes were a nice touch as was the home made bread at breakfast.

None of the luke warm breakfast buffet of the larger chains, but an included, freshly cooled, made to order "proper" breakfast.

Highly recommended - and if you're American and reading this, no it hasnt got a lift (elevator) because we Brits aren't scared of the minimal exercise that walking up a flight of stairs offers :o)

Lovely friendly, modern and well decorated Hotel. Our room (Stone room) was a good size, had a very comfortable bed with lovely white cotton bedding and great shower room. We appreciated the complimentary glass of wine and delicious homemade cake. Breakfast was also excellent, particularly enjoyed the homemade bread and the quality of sausages and bacon used in the cooked breakfast. All in all a perfect stay and can't wait to return.
