“Warm welcome and good breakfast”
Reviewed 26 July 2012

Have stayed here several times now and will go back whenever in this area.

It's located in what used to be a private house in a terrace of similar properties surrounding gardens. A tip on finding it is that all the properties on the three sides are called Augusta Gardens. The hotel is located on the south west corner near one of the main roads through Folkestone. It is conveniently located for walking on the generally considered better west end of Folkestone.

Service, attention and helpfulness has always been exemplary. Breakfast is at least equal to many five star establishments with home made bread, marmalade and most cooked items as you request.

There is no dedicated parking which means if you are travelling by car that you may need to park at a distance. Be warned that the police station is nearby so well advised to obey on street parking instructions.

An example of the friendly ethos is that an alcoholic drink, tea coffees and often home baked cakes are available at no extra charge to guests. There is a nominal charge if you are meeting non residents for this. The local friends were delighted with this hospitality.

Room Tip: The rooms are priced according to size. There is no lift so the smallest room at the top (3 stories...

I've stayed here many nights over the last couple of years and would not stay anywhere else when I need to go to Folkestone. The managers and staff are very welcoming and the rooms and breakfasts are excellent. What a nice extra touch to have a little free help-yourself kitchen stocked with cake and a good coffee machine. Complimentary glass of wine or beer as well! Hoping to be back there soon.

We stayed here prior to our channel tunnel crossing for an 8 1/2 hr drive back to Switzerland. When we arrived we were made to feel very welcome and were also upgraded to a larger room at no extra cost. We were shown around and up to our room which was very nice.it was clean, comfortable and equipped with everything a room should have including a handy information folder (recommendations on restaurants etc).

There is a small kitchen area down stairs where you can help yourself to tea, coffee and cake, also one complimentary glass of wine or a bottle of beer.

Due to our very early departure the next day we couldn't have the breakfast, so we were offered a take away breakfast that would be ready for us to take out of the fridge in the morning.

This is a lovely place to stay, very friendly and helpful staff.

The only downside is the limited amount of parking and there was no lift, so we had to carry our suitcases up 3-4 flights of stairs up to the top.

Stayed here for 2 nights whilst at our son's wedding. Having read the great reviews here on TA.we were expecting a quality stay. Our room and bed were small and the roon was very hot even though it was only spring. There was no air conditioning ,only a fan availble .

The most annoying factor was the lack of parking which had been advertised as freely available. When we enquired about where to park, we were told that we could usually find somewhere on the surrounding streets ,which was not the case!

Breakfast was good with a wide choice ,the free water /cakes and complimentary drink was a nice touch but all in all we did not feel it was value for money.

Prior to our stay here we stayed at the nearby Ship Inn. This was far better value and just as good.

If you happen to find yourself in Folkestone, stay here. It is clean, cute and the breakfast is wonderful. The staff is very helpful and goes out of their way to accommodate you. Our stay here was perfect. Our rooms were on the top floor and surprisingly spacious. The internet was fast. Parking is a bit of a challenge, but bearable.

I stayed in The Relish the night before my wedding and the night of my wedding. We stayed in the Cliff room which is right at the top of the Hotel but we was advised this when booking. The service was wonderful. The bed was extreamly comfortable and the complimentary wine was fantastic. The staff are second to none, and the breakfast was gorgeous. Home cooked and Hot!

This hotel is just perfect. The room we had was spotlessly clean with plenty of storage space and surfaces, and places to put one's bags. The towels were large and soft and the shower very good. The en suite could have done with having a few more lights in it, but it is a small niggle really since most hotels seem to provide gloomy bathrooms these days. Our room was right at the top of the hotel, and there is no lift, but we had been warned about this beforehand [unlike another hotel on the same trip] and help was provided with getting our luggage up there [we had a lot as we were touring]. The guest sitting room, homeade cake, proper coffee machine, free wine, free wifi and general ambience are just fabulous -- we never wanted to leave. The staff and the owner were helpfulness itself, even securing us a table at a restaurant that had told us they were full! The breakfast was lovely and cooked exactly as requested and one could have eaten a very great deal! We visited in February, but I can imagine it would be delightful sitting out on the terrace in the summer either for breakfast or in the early evening with a glass of wine gazing out over the gardens. We liked the king sized bed being two singles joined together and were very appreciative of having two duvets [unlike another reviewer]. We much prefer to have our own duvets as sharing one always leads to someone getting less than they want. The beds were probably the most comfortable we have ever encountered in a hotel anywhere in the world, and the best night's sleep I've ever had in a hotel. The rooms were also very quiet and properly insulated from each other, another refreshing change from most hotels. We had a great view over the trees to the cliffs and sea beyond, too. The hotel was beautifully warm over what happened to be a very cold and blustery weekend, and we were very pleased to see we could control the level of heat in our room [so often one cannot properly]. The hotel is situated very close to the Leas for lovely bracing walks with sea views and, in summer, the band.We stay in a lot of hotels, usually 4*, and are nearly always disappointed by something, generally many things. It was such a refreshing change to stay in this hotel where everything was just right, and where the staff were so keen to make it even more perfect if at all possible. We will be back!

Room Tip: All the rooms are different -- ask the hotel's advice depending on your needs.
