“Burlington Hotel, Folkestone”
Reviewed 25 March 2014

the hotel is a huge lovely old red brick building. The room was fairly small, which we weren't surprised at as we stayed at cut price with a travel voucher, but was nicely decorated and was very clean. There was plenty of lighting too - usually hotel rooms are very dingy with too few lights. The bed wasn't all that comfortable but when are they? There was plenty of storage space and a couple of chairs in the room so you didn't only have the bed to sit on. Nice (working) television, kettle with tea, coffee and shortbread biscuits and hair dryer. The room felt welcoming and was nice to sit in.
Really lovely bathroom with bath & shower plus plenty of towels and toiletries - also a shelf to put your own stuff on, and a heated towel rail. All the fittings looked new in the bathroom.
Exceptionally polite staff on reception and in restaurant. We only used the restaurant for breakfast, which was adequate. Some days it is a buffet which is a bit limited but good variety on the days when you choose from the breakfast menu. the restaurant staff were also very polite and helpful.
Didn't use the bar so can't comment.
Good location for walking along the 'front' and about a 10 minute walk into the town where there are plenty of shops and eating places. Would definitely stay there again and would recommend it.

Stayed for two nights last week on special deal. Good value for money. Hotel was well located for pleasant walks along the Leas with choice of walks at varying levels. Walking distance to town and harbour so no need for car. Limited parking in grounds of hotel, but spaces along the road.

Our room in the hotel was clean and comfortable with flat screen TV, tea and coffee facilities and the staff were very friendly and courteous. We would have preferred a double room but as we were a short notice booking we accepted a twin room. We ate in the Bay Tree Restaurant one night and had a very pleasant meal at a reasonable price.
Would recommend for short break.

This is now my third review on this property which is unusual for me but it just seems to get better each time probably because of the friendly staff and great value for a seaside hotel. Now looking forward to my next visit to relax

Booked a weekend here on an £99 Amazon local voucher and were most impressed on seeing a beautiful old Victorian pile on our arrival on Friday evening. Reception desk was being handled by a trainee, Diana, but she was delightful, efficient and very friendly!

Our room on the second floor (#241) was very dated in its decor and quite small, but spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable with a large flat screen TV and a large clean bathroom. The remainder of the hotel is similarly old fashioned wth fussy decor, deep swag curtains and a faded grandeur about the whole place.

This same old fashioned feel extended to the Bay Tree restaurant where we had breakfast both days and dinner on the Saturday night - the hotel kindly moving the first night dinner to allow for our late arrival on Friday. However, despite the surroundings which definitely need an update, the food was SUPERB on all occasions. Service was attentive, with several of the girls clearly in the process of being trained by Andrew the attentive restaurant manager, but very friendly and warm and with nothing too much trouble. They have clearly taken earlier comments on board about the breakfast which was delicious, piping hot and with warm plates available!

Folkestone itself is in similar need of TLC as parts of the hotel, but as a base to tour the area, the Burlington Hotel was ideal, in a nice part of the town, 1 min from the front and 15 mins walk into the centre. Very limited parking at the hotel itself, but plenty free spaces all around the area so not an issue.

Overall we were very impressed by the Burlington and would definitely return. Its clearly in the process of being turned around and the decor being updated (which is the only reason I havent given it 5/5) but with excellent food and great service it deserves to do well. Thank you to everyone for a fantastic weekend.

Stayed at the Burlington on an Amazon deal. Having stayed in other hotels in Folkestone on many occasions, we found this hotel, by far, one of the best. Very clean and comfortable. The staff were very polite and helpful and the food was excellent.
Would recommend this to our friends and would stay here again.

Having booked through Amazon local we expected to receive a basic room and we're delighted to have room 112. A four poster bed, spa bath and sea views. The staff were friendly, polite and good at their job. Food was good too. Room service excellent. Some parts need a lick of paint but this didn't bother us or spoil our stay.
