“Convenient, super views, nice price”
Reviewed 29 November 2011

We stayed here overnight prior to a flying visit next day to the french hypermarkets and would definately use this hotel again. Booked because of cheap price but were amazed at the value for money. Would advise ALWAYS upgrade to the Victorian Restaurant for £5 per person per night as Harbour Restaurant can get VERY busy. Room was nice and spacious, bed a little hard though, excellent view over harbour and sea right across to Dover. Hotel is a bit dated and a few issues with general maintenance stopped me giving it a 5 star review, didn't use the ballroom entertainment or the health club facilities so can't comment on those. Could do with more lifts though as had to wait quite often as a lot of people checking in as we arrived.

Room Tip: Ask for harbour view and always upgrade to Victorian Restaurant

We have stayed at the Grand Burstin on many occations and enjoyed the stay however this time i have to say that i was very dissapointed we were given a Premier room the room was very small the beds were clean but very small and not very nice to sleep on the staff were not as helpful as the other times we have stayed and as for the food it was not up to what we have had in the past the reason for this is i think many guests were on coach packages and the hotel was quite full, I was also angry thet when i went to the bar the were three lines one for free drinks one for drinks at 99 pence and one for full priced drinks I believe that if you are paying the same or more for your room then you should be treated the same, as for the Dinner and Breakfast again i was very dissapointed it was like a holiday camp and not a very good selection, sadly the hotel has let me down

Room Tip: I think this well be the last time we will stay at this hotel I feel my money is as good as anyones

We keep going back to the Burstin. It has a great position on the harbour and the views are superb. Shabby in places and could do with freshening up especially in reception, but don't let that put you off. we always ask for a premier room with sea view and balcony - so relaxing to sit and watch the seagulls wheeling over the waves! The Premier restaurant is a lovely high ceilinged room and the self-service food choice is excellent and very good value. Staff clear and replace quickly and efficiently. Wine is good and cheap at £8.50 per bottle. Only niggle is the main course and vegetables are not very hot. The hotel is generally clean though not immaculate. Large room, comfy beds, towels changed daily. Reported a broken light and dealt with the next day. Staff very pleasant. We had a great stay.

Room Tip: If you like to see the seas ask for sea view AND balcony

We only stayed one night as we were in folkstone to see Bad Shephards. The Hotel was very busy with aTurkey & Tinsel weekend. The atmosphere was great. We found it very well priced and with breakfast real value for money. We had a lovely sea view room with balcony.
Sadly we didn't have much time to enjoy all the facilities so we plan to return for a long weekend. We found the staff friendly and helpful. The public areas comfortable and clean.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less noise

Went to the Burstin as a weekend coach package. It is good value for money , especially if you have the 99p bar included. The rooms are large and clean, though some would say the decor was slightly dated. The food is buffet style, like a holiday camp, but plenty of it. When we got to the resraurant, we were in a big group, so we were sent to the posher restaurant for no extra charge, which is nice, but to save money stay with the main one.
The only problem we had, and I think some other people had problems too, was some of the girls on reception were not very helpful, so we waited for the shift change then had more help from the gentleman on lates. I would use this hotel again, as it is central for going to Canterbury etc, and is good value for money.

went to hotel 11 till 14th november on a coach trip. I went with a friend and we had a good weekend. The hotel was full but we didnt have to wait for our meals the restaurant was well run and the staff kept it clean and tidy, there was plenty of choice and we found the food was realy good. Our room was fine the water in the bathroom was realy hot it was lovely to have a good long soak in the bath. The entertainment was ok the usual bingo and quiz and then karoake. The hotel is in a good place for walking right by the sea and we walked down the Leas and through the park which is lovely we also visited the memorial for the Battle of Britain. we went on a coach trip to Ostend but anyone going for tobacco or cigarettes be warned the customs at Dover were realy strict they searched all the coaches bit of a nightmare.
