clean cheap and cheerful handy for us to visit son in ashford, and the food is plentiful and splendid. pool and nightly entertainment fantatic views, and what more could you want for 15.00 pppn. or you can pay extra for penthouse or premier room and the victorian dinning room is nicer (table cloths) than the harbour view which is more like a canteen but the food the same and plentiful

Room Tip: premier or ask for harbour view avoid 6th floor if you are not a smoker,

The Grand Burstin Hotel : Stayed 3 nights on a Coach Trip with a day in France & Belgium (Ostend) I fail to see what is Grand about this Hotel, It is shabby to say the least we stayed on the 5th Floor C wing and after the second fire door we were greeted by a horrendous smell that took you breath away this we reported to reception, with no effect, over the next 3 days it seemed to get worse. The Lifts failed at regular intervals. Fellow Guest were Loud and only interested in two things The Duty Free day and the 99p Bar. Entertainment was very poor (bingo included), as to the surrounding area I have never seen so many Closed down shops in one road. If like most that stay in this Hotel You treat it as a Base for Cheap Fags it will do, but do not expect GRAND.
P.S. Ostend was Beautiful .

Room Tip: Ground Floor (so you don't have to use the lifts)

Well for £31.50p got Dinner Bed and Breakfast and underground parking for our motorbikes. We arrived at 7PM they were expecting us and we were directed to our rooms, my room was huge double bed and bunk beds bathroom and toilet, yes it was all dated but the bed was acceptable and the whole room was clean as was the bathroom with an abundance of toilet gels shampoo and soap.
Dinner was very good a huge choice of help your self food soup, salad and hot dishes plus a selection of desserts. The drinks were cheap until 8pm so couple of beers and off to bed as early ferry in the morning. Checkout was excellent.
Why stay in Dover and pay huge amounts when the Burstin is 10mins down the road would recommend to anyone for an overnighter prior to the ferry.

Stayed twice now on the way to Dover. Whilst catering mainly to coach parties and being fairly dilapidated for £25 a night for a stopover it is ideal.

The bar and food are both reasonable and the rooms are large enough and clean, if a little tatty around the edges,

Lots of coach parties stay here so it is high turnover. If you have an early ferry then it provides somewhere to sleep. Would I book in for a week? No.

On the last nignt of my stay I discovered that my suitcase was missing from my room.I informed the reception staff and was told they would look in to the matter. An hour later I again enquired and was told they had checked the cupboards and the case could not be found, the next morning I spoke to the manager who told me to ring the police.I explained the case was not a designer one and her reply was they probably thought it was.I was forced to carry my belongings out of the hotel in a black refuse sack.An hour into my return journey home I received a call from the manager to say my case had now been found in a cupboard. After further calls my case was returned to me almost a month later in a torn refuse sack.Needless to say this experience spoilt what otherwise was an enjoyable stay, and I found the attitude of the reception staff and manager was uncaring and most unhelpful to my predicament.I have received no written apology or explanation from the hotel why my case was taken from my room.

A hotel that has bags of potential if somebody was willing to spend on it. All but 1 Lift was broken which when you are on the 7th floor leaves some people with difficulties. The water in the bathroom was scalding and a word of warning if you are going with children DO NOT allow them to run the taps unsupervised as they will scold themselves. We had to run baths as the shower was not operable due to temperature control. Breakfast left a bit to be desired. Fresh tea would have been nice as would cold milk for the cereals.

But despite these little hiccups, the hotel was good, the staff friendly and was in a fab location. I would go back again so it can't have been that bad.

Do not be put off by the many negative reviews of this hotel. Some people are never happy. We enjoyed a 4 night stay in a clean and comfortable premier room and everything was 1st class. The view from the bedroom window was spectacular, meals varied and plentiful and all the staff efficient and friendly. This hotel is more than value for money and we certainly will return.

Room Tip: Premier rooms on the 5th floor have wonderful views over the harbour.
